What's ailing Preity?

By Bollywood Buzz News Bureau [malik.bollywood@gmail.com]
Preity just turned 31 years old and it was boyfriend, the Wadia scion Ness who decided to do the honours. We are told Ness decided to throw a surprise party for his actress girlfriend and invited all her close friends. Preity was so touched that she simply let her hair down and enjoyed the party to the hild. So much so that she actually fell ill the very next day with a stomach infection and needed bed rest and urgent medication. Hope she recovers quickly to enjoy the rest of the celebrations!

Hrithik Roshan: 'Super'man is back!

By Bollywood Buzz News Bureau [malik.bollywood@gmail.com]
For all those wondering what Rakesh Roshan would do next to outdo the 'magic' of Koi Mil Gaya, the wait seems to be over. And for those who've seen the teaser promos of 'Krrish' on air, it promises to be much more 'supermagical'. And even batman might baulk at this one, but superheroes beware. No one ever looked as good in a caped coat and cat mask as Hrithik Roshan is in this one. And he's literally leaping in the air and flying high - pumped with powers that belie the normal Hindi film hero. His superman act in dad's sequel is really impressive - special effects and all. The latest Indian caped crusader (yes, body suit et al) is all set to fight crime in style. And if the kiddies loved jadoo in the first, (the alien is missing from this one) a muscled Duggu going through awe inspiring SFX will have them clapping. Though what we adults think ... hmmnnn ... we'll wait for the film and then comment. Such journos we are.

    Aishwarya in Cannes again!
Yet another Aishwarya starrer to be premiered at the Cannes film festival after Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Devdas', which was premiered at Cannes in 2002. This year the prestigious Cannes film festival is scheduled to start in May, and producer-director Jagmohan Mundra wants his forthcoming 'Provoked' starring Aishwarya to be premiered in Cannes. 'Provoked' is based on the real-life story of battered wife, played by Aishwarya. The rumour mill already started working on about the ensembles she will wear in the festival during her red-carpet walks.
"My dignity doesn't allow me to comment," Aishwarya!
So much being talked about Vivek Oberoi-Aishwarya split. Even there was a rumour that actor Salman Khan, who dated Rai in the past, has recently called up Oberoi to extend a hand of friendship. If rumour to be believed, even Salman said Vivek over telephone that "Teri panvati bhi nikal gayi. The bad woman has passed." In the wake of so much speculations and rumours, Aishwarya said recently in an interview that her dignity doesn't allow her to comment. Rai, who, just back in Mumbai after a grueling schedule of J P Dutta's 'Umrao Jaan' to shoot for 'Dhoom 2', maintains that commenting on the breakup is beneath her - she says she has the support of God and her family. "As long as God and my family are with me, nothing else matters," she said with blooming glow.

Aishwarya as Sonia Gandhi?

By Bollywood Buzz News Bureau [malik.bollywood@gmail.com]
After two true -life characters Umrao Jaan and Gayatri Devi will Aishwarya Rai play Sonia Gandhi in the biographical epic on the Congress diva? The prolific London-based producer Dr J. Murli Manohar who has just released the new Hindi satire Ramji Londonwale and is all set to unleash the true-life tale of spousal abuse Provoked , is ready to move ahead. This time his chosen subject is Sonia Gandhi. "We've bought the rights of Rashid Kidwai's biography on Sonia Gandhi," reveals Dr Murli. "The script is being readied. Jagmohan Mundhra was supposed to direct this film before Provoked. But we thought doing Provoked would bring Jag to a new level in his career and prepare audiences to see him handle a subject as sensitive and epic as Sonia Gandhia."The big question: who will play Sonia Gandhi? Says Dr Murli, "Jagmohan Mundhra is of the opinion that we should have an authentic international face to play Sonia. He has spoken to Carla Gugino , the actress from Spy Kids 2. He has also spoken to Preity Zinta in India."But Dr Murli wants to opt for his perennial favourite Aishwarya Rai who's done the producer's Jeans and now Provoked, and can get as Italian in looks as it gets. "We aren't looking at the politics of Sonia Gnadhi. We want to make the film on the woman not the politician. Jag wants the film to reflect one catch-line.. 'She came for the love of her life. She stayed for the love of her land.' Why Jagmohan Mundhra? "He has it in him. He's a very learned filmmamker. And he knows how to control budgets. Lots of filmmakers are functional only with big budgets and big stars. Jag doesn't function that way. He knows the value of money. He had to make the films that he did because he wanted to be noticed in Hollywood."Carl Austen who has written Provoked will script Sonia. And Rajiv Gandhi? "Various names are being thrown around. It'd have to be an international name like Jimmi Mistry..like how they did Gandhi with Ben Kingsley. We want this film to get optimum international attention," says Dr Murli. So far the London-based maverick producer Dr J. Murli Manohar has produced 29 lavish fantasies. That's about to change. His new production Provoked is about to give this powerful producer a new image of a socially conscious filmmaker. This England-based ENT surgeon- turned - producer , in India for the release of his latest production, started his career with Indian Summer in 1986. "It had a complete British cast and crew. I made it in India and sold it worldwide. Earlier when the Indian government had allowed the import of English-language films into India I brought around 200 English films into India. "At the film festivals I'd see films made all over the world being marketed internationally. Why couldn't we do the same when India claimed to be the largest filmmaking country in the world? The key was to make cinema that would appeal to international audiences. Indian Summer made money. Then I did Bloodstone with Rajnikanth directed by Dwight Little in 1988. "Then I went into production with Ashok Amritraj for Tropical Heat and Inferno , another Hollywood –calibre film from India, then Jeans which was a huge success in Tamil and Telugu though not in Hindi. In fact Inferno was Madhavan's first feature film. Our association has continued ever since. I did a hit film called Minnale in Tamil with Maddy."Dr Murli has just completed a Tamil film Thambi with Madhavan. "All I can say is Maddy has played a character whose ideology is a combination of Mahatma Gandhi and Subhas Chandra Bose. It will take his career to another level." With Provoked the prolific producer is ready to move to a different level himself. "There's a lot of international interest in the film. I'm currently in Chennai with my director Jagmohan Mundhra finalizing the background score with A.R. Rahman. The theme needed an intense support. Rahman takes the poignant tale to another level. I think we've a winner on hand."

Hrithik's transformation for Dhoom 2

By Bollywood Buzz News Bureau [malik.bollywood@gmail.com]
Now that shooting for Krrish is done and over, with only post-production left, Hrithik is busy preparing himself for his next multi starrer, Dhoom 2.Well, from the looks of it, preparing for this role hasn't been easy. On one side there was gaining weight for Krrish so that he could manage all his super hero stunts easily, on the other side he has to transform himself to play a negative character (which by the way he is playing for the first time) along with Aishwarya. This transformation consists of streaking his locks blonde and losing weight to about 12 pounds on Aditya Chopra's insistence so that he suits his character perfectly. Being a perfectionist that Duggu is, one just cannot stop marveling as to how easily he moulds himself to suit the essence and persona of his role in Dhoom 2, shooting of which begins later this week. The unit will subsequently proceed to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil for the finale. So here's to you Mr. Hritik Roshan, we wish you all the success you deserve for everything you do.
