Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Satish Shah appeared before the Rajasthan High Court here Thursday in connection with the poaching of chinkaras, a protected species of gazelle, during the shooting of a film in 1998."The court has so far not fixed a date for next hearing in the case," said Hastimal Saraswat, counsel for Salman Khan.
"Salman and Satish Shah appeared before the court to mark their personal attendance as the court had asked them to do so," Saraswat told.
The court had on July 31 issued bailable warrants of Rs.5,000 against Salman and seven others and asked them to appear personally before the court.
The ruling had come after the court admitted a Rajasthan government appeal for enhancing the jail term awarded to him by a local court in the Bhavad village poaching case.
The government's plea had challenged a lower court's acquittal under various sections of the Indian Penal code and the Arms Act while finding him guilty under the Wildlife Protection Act.
On Feb 17, Salman was sentenced to one-year imprisonment and fined Rs.5,000 by a lower court here that found him guilty of killing two chinkaras at Bhavad village in Jodhpur district on the night of Sep 26-27, 1998, during the shooting of Sooraj Barjatya's "Hum Saath Saath Hain".
