“I’ve been living in this city since I was 16. Professionally, my head has always been firmly planted on my shoulders. I have had no guiding force; all decisions had to be made by myself. But I’ve never complained because I knew I had only myself to blame if anything went wrong. Thankfully, my graph has only gone up and the entire credit goes to me.”
She admits she was a rebel like most teenagers. “I left my education much against my parents’ desire. I went off to New York on my own; my parents were really worried for me, till they realised that I’m responsible enough to handle myself.” And boy, did she live up to their trust!
“I could have easily gotten into any kind of addiction as I had everything in front of me in abundance. But I never felt the urge to pick up a cigarette or drink myself silly. I am high on life. I don’t need any added substance to make me happy,” she says.
As far as her career is concerned, she says quality is all that matters now. “In the past, I did do several movies back to back just to be seen. Now, with whatever I’ve attained, I’m very particular about the quality. Money is no longer the guiding factor for me.”
Rubbishing rumours of being too ‘pricey’, Bips says, “I am not here for charity. This is my profession and I have to maintain a certain standard of living. I will continue asking for what I think I deserve, but if there’s a film I totally believe in, I might do it for free. It is totally up to me. And no one has the right to question me.”
