Kareena Kapoor has proved her detractors wrong again. After she was labelled 'fat' in Don, the actress took the matter rather seriously, and thanks to a weight-conscious boyfriend, is now seven kilos lighter.
Kareena has been working out religiously for the last seven months. When we met her at a coffee shop recently, she looked slimmer than ever. She says that she has lost seven kilos in seven months. "I would give credit to Shaahid for my weight loss. He is very health conscious and inspired me to lose weight too," says Kareena.
How has she taken to her new fitness schedule? "I have become fitness conscious only in the last seven months. It's a great change because both Shaahid and I gym together. I have my own trainer called Yasmin Karachiwala from Bandra. I am not looking at muscles and an athletic body, but I certainly want a well-toned look. I also practice yoga at Bharat Thakur's school. I guess, a combination of yoga with gym exercises has helped me get back into shape," she says.
When did she feel the need to hit the gym? "Well, I have been sitting at home for the last seven months and have had nothing to do. Shaahid works out for two hours every day; he asked me to do the same. Since then, my health regime has worked wonders for me. I have no films on hand apart from Zoya Akhtar and Mani Ratnam's films, both of which will start from next year. Since I have the time, I am utilising it to tone up my body. I want to look super-sexy and do a film in which I can play very hot character," laughs Kareena.
Stories of members of the Kapoor khandan putting on weight are legendary. "Ha ha… that's funny. I know what it means to be a ladli beti. In fact, my mom (Babita) understands the reason why I am on a diet, but my dad (Randhir Kapoor) feels I am only torturing myself. The other day when we were having dinner he looked at me and said, 'Refugee mein kitni acchi dikhti thi, aur tum ne aapna kya haal banaya' (You used to look so nice during Refugee and look what you have done to yourself now). But I am sure that he will also understand," she smiles.
Kareena has not faced the camera in the last nine months. She says, "It's hard to believe but it's true. The last time I faced the camera was for 'Yeh mera dil' in Don."
The actress says that being a vegetarian helps too. "I feel great. It has to do a lot with my spirituality, but at the same time I am not a religious person. And mind you, I don't starve at all. I eat at regular intervals and drink a lot of fresh fruit juices. Shaahid and I love vegetarian food," she says.
