Mumbai, Jan 14: Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khan left for London, early Monday morning, for the unveiling of his wax replica at the prestigious Madame Tussad museum. Bollywood's inimitable and irrepressible bad boy, the actor’s wax figure is worth £ 200,000 (roughly Rs 1.62 crore). He was accompanied by his family, including girlfriend Katrina Kaif.
Those who have seen the statue say that Salman’s wax figure, which took 12 weeks and five artistes to create, has a remarkable resemblance to him. A special wax and silicon-like materials have been used to give the macho star’s six-pack abs and biceps a realistic look. The sculptors worked overtime to develop the accurate shape and size. However, to the disappointment of his fans, the Salman’s wax replica will not be showcased bare-chested.
Madame Tussaud officials also revealed the brawny star’s wax work will be placed in the New Bollywood area along with three other Bollywood superstars- veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan, Sallu’s ex flame Aishwarya Rai and his close friend Shah Rukh Khan.
During a recent interview Salman, in his characteristic manner, took a light hearted collective dig at other Bollywood stars who were honored with a wax replica before him. "After Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi, I think I am the third most deserving in the museum," he joked.
Khan beat nine other Indian stars, including Madhuri Dixit and Abhishek Bachchan, to be immortalised in wax after a public poll was conducted in August last year. Over 10,000 votes were received, and Salman emerged the clear winner.
Salman Khan, who debuted almost two decades back in the runaway hit ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ has always a sizeable fan following in the UK .
Despite his conterversies and irrespective of hits and flops, Salman Khan has managed to remain an undisputed star amongst the top ranking Bollywood heroes. One of Bollywood’s biggest draw, his films still command the biggest box-office openings, along with Shah Rukh and Akshay Kumar.
His forthcoming projects include first timer Rimi Jaffery’s comic caper ‘God tussi great ho’, Prabhu Deva’s ‘Pokkiri’ and Subhas Ghai’s musical extravagenca ‘Main Yuvraaj’. With yet another feather added in his cap, the 42 year old’s 2008 couldn’t have started on a better note.
