‘I’ve six babies’

I’m very relaxed these days. But still there is a lot to keep me busy,” says Farah Khan. “Three babies is quite a task in hand you see,” she laughs.

Farah’s triplets are called Diva, Anya and Czar. “We’d always thought about Diva as a name option, but the others were difficult to decide. Shah Rukh and I named one of the girls Diva and Czar and Anya were Shirish’s idea,” she shares.

Considering brother Sajid Khan has made an entire movie centred around a baby, was he any help to big sis? “No, Sajid has been doing nothing. He’s not changed a single diaper. When he came to the hospital he got terrified of three small babies and said, ‘I will meet them when they’re three months old.’ Sajid gets hyper for no reason,” she says. But then, for Farah, Sajid is a baby. “In fact, I have six babies. Diva, Anya, Czar, Shah Rukh, Karan Johar and Sajid.”

Cut to the subject of movies and Farah does not feel that movie-making is a rocket science. “You just have to have your fundas very clear. I make fun-movies that I have fun making and watching also. And honestly, no one makes a movie thinking that this one is going to flop. I make a movie knowing that it’ll be a hit. And OSO has been a big hit. I don’t become too serious when it comes to movies. I don’t pretend to be a mad genius; well, come to think of it, I am one. But, unlike a lot of other directors, I don’t create a false aura around me,” she says.

One thing that Farah has always been known for is her in-your-face comments. On Karan Johar’s chat show she called Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Ajay Devgan over-hyped actors of Indian cinema. “Well, being too honest does get me into trouble on many occasions. I think, with age, I’m trying to learn the art of diplomacy. Sometimes, being honest is not good, you might end up hurting someone. I won’t learn to be dishonest, but I will learn to shut my mouth and say nothing at all,” she smiles.

Farah has cut down on her choreography as well. “I am not going to do too much of choreography any more. I was not growing as a choreographer. I was tired of doing one more college song or one more wedding song. At least, in my own movies, I can conceptualise and visualise what I want people to see and make it look different. I will only choreograph for my movies and my husband’s movies,” she says.

Farah’s movies have some default settings – SRK, Sajid Khan and a masala script. “I’m not saying that I can’t do movies without Shah Rukh. In fact, if my script demands a 20-year-old college boy, then even he’ll laugh at me if I offer him that role. But I would always hope that he’s associated with all my movies. I think, now I want to make Shah Rukh do a comic role. I want to portray him as a mean man whom people will really love,” she adds. Farah’s next movie Happy New Year has been in the pipeline for long. “I’m still writing the script and it all happens between the changing of diapers. So, it’ll take some time.”
