Riya Sen appointed as the Brand Ambassador for IPL website

The Sen girls in Bollywood are really something. How else would you explain their presence in practically in every aspect of glamour in Bollywood? The latest one on the 'Sen'sational circuit is actress Riya Sen, who has been recently appointed as the Brand Ambassador for Indian Premier League's (IPL) official website www.iplt20.com

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama Riya says, “I was present as a guest in the IPL's inaugural match. And I know all of the organizers of IPL very well, including Lalit Modi. It was our mutual love for cricket that got us together. As a Brand Ambassador of the website, I am supposed to attend at least 5 matches, but I am planning to attend much more than 12 matches, subject to I am not working (shooting) at that time.” When asked about her role as a Brand Ambassador of the website, she explains, “My role requires me to be present at the IPL matches, interact with the cricketers, and post my reactions and views on the site.

Lastly, when we quizzed her about which team she supported, without battling an eyelid, she says, “Since I am from Kolkatta, it is but natural that I will be rooting for the Kolkatta Knight Riders!”

How stars celebrate their Holi-Day

Urmila Matondkar: "I'll be working on Holi-day. So no Holi for me."

Shabana Azmi: "It would be as usual an open house for friends and family for Holi at my parents' home in Janki Kutir. There will be a generous flow of non-toxic colours, gana-bajaana and khana…a long-standing tradition in our house as part of India's ganga-jumna tehzeeb.

Shefali Shah: "My husband Vipul and I will be having a get-together at home. We'll have close friends over. Lots of food, bhang, out-of-tune karaoke, dumb charade…and lots and lots of laughter.

Tusshar Kapoor: "I stopped playing Holi years back. But this year I'll have to attend the Holi bash specially arranged for my new film 123."

Malaika Arora: "I won't be playing Holi this year as I'm holidaying in Dubai"

Nandana Sen: "On Holi day I'll be traveling back from Khajuraho to Mumbai. I'll be coming home just for a day. I'll be sad missing Holi, though. It's my absolute favourite among the Holidays in our calendar.

Manoj Bajpai: "I don't celebrate Holi. I hate being dirty with colour and mud."

Riya Sen: "I'm not sure I'll be playing Holi or not. It'd depend on my mood."

Koena Mitra: "I haven't played Holi during the last few years. This year I might go for a Holi bash being hosted by a dear friend. Since it's inside the house and only close friends are invited it'd be safe. I'll therefore go."

Amrita Arora: "I'll be at home on holi. Who wants to step out?" Celina Jaitley: "I'm shooting on the day before Holi, so no masti. But I'll definitely put gulaal on my buddies

Ravi Kissan: "Arrey bhaiya, making bhang with my own hands and giving it to friends. That's my pleasure for Holi that no one can take away."

Anuraag Sinha: "This is my first Holi right after the release of my first film Black & White. I'm going to freak out with friends and family

Mahesh Bhatt: "22nd March happens to be the day my friend and mentor U.G Krishnamurthy died. I don't play Holi. I'm going to Bangalore to release a book of mine that's been translated into Kannada.

Jiah Khan: "I'm shooting, and I can't play Holi. I'd have loved to get splashed in colour! Holi is one of the most beautiful festivals of our country and it symbolizes our zest for fun.

Aryan Vaid: "I'm not a big fan of Holi I'll be in Pune with friends, considering it's a long weekend.

Bollywood says NO to male nudity!

Daniel Craig, who had women all around the world gasping when he stepped out of the sea in Casino Royale wearing swimming trunks, is willing to set new standards for Ian Fleming’s secret agent James Bond.

In his next Bond film, Craig has promised to go totally nude. When asked why he intends to strip, Craig "who has one of the most finely chiselled bodies in Hollywood" said, "I’ve got nothing to hide. And, after all, we ask the girls to reveal almost all in films, so why not the men?" Why not, indeed! And better still is his willingness to bare it all.

Meanwhile, shifting the focus to Bollywood, our desi male stars with their new six pack abs are happy and confident about shedding their shirts and dropping towels to titillate female fans’ imaginations. Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, John Abraham and Ranbir Kapoor don’t have bodies much different from Craig’s. But the question BT asked their female costars in Bollywood was would there be as much interest in seeing Messrs Khans, Roshan, Abraham and Kapoor in the nude as there is in gawking at a Daniel Craig? This is what they replied, laughing in embarrassment!

    Priyanaka Chopra

I think I would cringe on seeing anyone in the Hindi film industry naked on screen. When you watch a movie with your family it gets difficult not to react. I think sensuality is more appealing than a full monty. It’s just too much in your face. And that is ugly.

    Dia Mirza

Ha-ha-ha... I wouldn’t want to see anyone nude on screen in a Hindi film. I think the mystery of not seeing all is much more exciting than seeing it all. Mystery evokes a deep sense of fascination and intrigue.

    Celina Jaitley

Hone-stly, I wouldn’t like to see any of our heroes in the nude, because nudity turns me off. But I certainly want to see a couple of them in uniform. The male clothed body is much more appealing.

    Kangana Ranaut

While I can give you a list of female bodies that I would appreciate nude, the male body is not a pleasant sight. First of all they are so hairy, and then they wax their bodies! I think it’s a terrible sight to see even a nude male statue or a man in his briefs. Let it be in the imagination, making it real isn’t a pleasant thought.

    Sonam Kapoor

The Indian sensibility doesn’t accept this. I agree Ranvir in that towel-dropping scene looked like a Greek God in Sawariyaan, but let’s keep it there, I mean showing the back only. Further than that, well, I can’t see it. As I know most of the stars personally, it will be too embarrassing for me to see them it all their splendour on screen.

    Riya Sen

In Holly-wood, it’s a brave fashion statement, and we don’t mind seeing male nudity in films made out there. But I don’t know how much our sensibilities will allow us to see our heroes like that. No, I won’t be able to.

Riya plays a parallel lead in ASMM

“Shooting the climax was quite chaotic and ended in a stampede,” recalls actress Riya Sen as she talks about her forthcoming film ‘Apna Sapna Money Money' in a recent interview.
Riya plays a parallel lead in the film beside Bengali bombshell Koena Mitra. Super sexy Riya plays a much deglamourized quiet gal. But there's a scene where, the film's hero Ritesh Deshmukh will ask her to dance. And Riya will break out of her character to a non-reserved girl and dance like crazy. “It was really funny shooting the scene,” recounted Riya.
“During the climax, all of us had great fun. We were all in splits. It was like an actual stampede with people falling all over each other, shouting, hitting and laughing like lunatics out of the mental asylum,” said Riya.

Apna Sapna Money Money - Movie Review

Lock your brains in the cupboard, throw your thinking caps out of the window, fasten your seat belts, hold your breath…

Sangeet Sivan, the man behind the thoroughly enjoyable madcap entertainer KYAA KOOL HAI HUM, is ready to unleash his new masaledaar entertainer on money and diamonds. His new outing, APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY, belongs to the same family as K2H2, but the difference is, there’re eleven characters this time around. Oh yes, there’s a dog too this time!

Years ago, Brij Sadanah made a rib-tickling comedy with Ashok Kumar and Pran called VICTORIA NO. 203. It was all about the precious diamonds being hidden in a horse carriage [Victoria]. APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY also charters a similar path. A gangster’s moll hides the booty in her sandal and the assorted eleven characters, not remotely connected to one another, come lusting for it [diamonds] in the end.

Sivan’s fundas are evident at the very outset. APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY is not for those looking for path-breaking cinema. APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY is not for the pseudo critics. APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY is not for the hi-gentry that loves to pop champagne at Page 3 events.

It’s for the aam junta that looks for non-stop entertainment.

APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY rests on a waferthin plot, but is loaded with nonsensical [and juvenile] humor that makes you laugh at regular intervals. Sure, this comic caper has too many characters and Sivan and writer Pankaj Trivedi’s narrative goes on and on in the second hour. Also, the climax loses its sheen for this very reason [all eleven characters need to have a conclusion after all]. But you overlook the flaws since APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY was never in the race for the Oscars!

To sum up, APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY is a decent time pass flick that delivers what it promises: Tadka [glamour], jhatka [skin show], masti [jokes], mazaak [laughter]… most importantly, the escapism form of entertainment that appeals to the hoi polloi.

APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY revolves around a bunch of madcap characters that eat, drink, sleep and worship money. The story revolves around a mechanic [Shreyas Talpande], a conman [Ritesh Deshmukh], a dancer [Koena Mitra], an upright cop [Suniel Shetty], an obsessed father [Anupam Kher] and his homely daughter [Riya Sen], a tabela owner [Rajpal Yadav], a ruthless gangster [Chunkey Pandey], a deadly don [Jackie Shroff] and his moll [Celina Jaitley] and an unpredictable dog [Casper].

If one runs after money, the other runs after love and the one who runs after love eventually runs after money. A dramatic turn evolves when all the characters start looking for hidden diamonds that are worth Rs. 50 crores.

APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY defies logic from start to end. Writer Pankaj Trivedi borrows characters and incidents from real and reel life to make a funny film. A few jokes are indeed amusing, but there are times when the gags fail to evoke mirth.

Ritesh and Anupam’s scenes are hilarious. So is the Rajpal Yadav track [he does a takeoff on Big B from SARKAR]. Chunkey’s portions also make you flex your facial muscles. But the love story [Shreyas-Riya] looks lifeless, the Ritesh-Koena prem kahani is equally listless, the don [Jackie] is reduced to a caricature and the climax, which should’ve been thoroughly enjoyable, falls flat.

What also goes against the film is that the narrative lacks the consistent wit-n-humor of KYAA KOOL HAI HUM. Sivan’s execution of the subject is perfect and the idea to make Ritesh change into various get-ups is indeed brilliant. In fact, Ritesh’s final get-up [of Shreyas’ aunt] is the best part of the enterprise. But how one wishes Sivan would’ve [i] Opted for fewer characters, [ii] Utilized the dog in some way or the other, [iii] Opted for a better climax.

Pritam’s music is strictly komsi-komsa. Barring the title track, the film lacks the hit tunes one associates with Mukta Arts’ productions. Ramji’s cinematography is eye-filling. Dialogues are enjoyable at times, but corny at places.

APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY has so many characters that it’s difficult to carry each one home after the show has concluded. But if there’s one actor who’s bound to make heads turn with a smash performance, it’s Ritesh Deshmukh. It’s a challenge for any actor to portray multiple roles in one film, but Ritesh gets to portray four here and he takes to each role with relish, enjoying every bit of it. He works the best as Shreyas’ aunt who flirts with Anupam Kher.

Anupam Kher is in terrific form yet again. In fact, Anupam is so good here, you actually wonder if anyone else would’ve been able to carry off the part with as much flourish. Chunkey Pandey is fantastic. After watching him in APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY, all you want to ask him is, Where were you hiding all this while? Rajpal Yadav delivers yet another knockout performance that’s sure to be talked about. Suniel Shetty is lovable as the honest cop.

Amongst ladies, Celina Jaitley is the best of the lot. She looks gorgeous and enacts her role with rare confidence. The girl is gradually evolving into a fine actor. Koena Mitra is alright. But the writer hasn’t done justice to her part. Even Riya Sen is relegated to the backseat.

Jackie Shroff doesn’t work. Shreyas Talpade’s role is oh-so-clean, which looks fake in a film of this genre. However, he enacts his part well. Sanjay Mishra is competent. Vrajesh Hirjee, Vijay Patkar, Bobby Darling and Avtar Gill lend decent support.

On the whole, APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY is a time pass entertainer targeted at the aam junta. Don’t look for logic in the film and chances are you wouldn’t be disappointed. At the box-office, the patronage by its target audience [masses and youth] as also a favorable opening response should help this medium-budget film make decent profits in the final tally.

Apna Riya Sex Scene'

Making love on a bed of roses is passe. With hot babes like Riya Sen around choreographers are souping up real hot love scenes. So Riya had to shoot something torrid with Shreyas Talpade on a bed of red chillies in her recent ‘ Apna Sapna Money Money'. And it wasn't fun even for this chilli babe. After some hugging and rolling on the dry red chilies Riya felt her skin burning. The dry chilies had her sneezing as well. To get the shot right she had to roll through the scene the whole day! And the brave gal called for ice cubes to rub all over her burning skin, and went ahead with the rolling.

Bollywood has seen scores of Bengali actresses

Bollywood has seen scores of Bengali actresses over decades. These actresses have proved their acting prowess time and again. But what remains unknown to most is that the members of the 'Bong brigade' most often steer clear of each other. In fact, there runs a common thread of frostiness among these actresses.

From the time when Rakhee and Sharmila Tagore drove director Yash Chopra crazy with their tantrums, to now, the frostiness has only increased. Even recently, when Rituparno Ghosh signed Rakhee and Sharmila Tagore for Shubho Mahurat, the two expressed disdain openly for each other.

The newer lot of Bollywood's Bengali imports has kept up the tradition. Recently, at the music launch of Sangeet Sivan's Apna Sapna Money Money, Riya Sen refused to stand next to Koena Mitra. Our source says, "Riya refused to share the stage with Koena and insisted that Sangeeth should not make them stand together. They used to be friends earlier but the friendship soured later. At the moment, they can't stand each other."

Actress Tanushree Dutta aligned herself to Koena, after the latter had a fight with Riya. Now, Tanushree refuses to even acknowledge Riya and Raima's presence.

Meanwhile, Rani Mukherji doesn't get along with actress Sushmita Sen. The two have never been spotted with each other. In fact, Sushmita makes it a point to visit the annual Durga puja pandal at Santa Cruz only when Rani is not around. "They don't have any particular reason for not talking to each other, but somehow they don't get along, and neither of them is interested in thawing the ice," says our source.

Bipasha Basu is not on talking terms with Koena Mitra and has put Riya Sen off her radar as Riya dated boyfriend John Abraham earlier. Bipasha too has never been spotted with Sushmita Sen, although she is said to be reasonably friendly with Rani Mukherji. However, there's no heart-warming friendship here too. "Bipasha and Rani are not good friends, they can just about stand each other's sight, courtesy John Abraham," says our source.

Rimii Sen has also been sidelined by her fellow Bongs because she has bagged the maximum number of prestigious projects in a span of four years. "She is very snooty and hardly speaks to anyone. Most of the time she lives in the South, shooting for Priyadarshan. Whenever she is in Mumbai, she prefers to stay at home," says our source. On the other hand, Reema Sen is ignored altogether. Says a Bengali actress on condition of anonymity, "Where is she nowadays? We don't even know what she is doing in life."

    Exceptions prove the rule

Actresses Konkona Sen Sharma and Raima Sen are exceptional cases and prefer to keep away from Bong politics. "They have somehow managed to keep themselves away from all these fights. Konkona and Raima are not party animals and they are hardly spotted at pubs or social gatherings," says our source. "They are the only ones who share a cordial relation with everybody."

In the past, Jaya Bachchan and Rakhee proved to be an exception to the rule. They bonded well with each other. In fact, Jaya would actually send over home-made food for Rakhee whenever the latter complained of missing out on Bengali cuisine.

Riya sen excited about her next release

Riya Sen may be excited about playing a girl-next-door in a rural set-up in her next release, Apna Sapna Money Money. However, early into the shooting, one particular love-making scene had her literally crying off her role. It was a scene where she had to get intimate with her hero Shreyas Talpade on a bed. Only the bed was not of roses, but red chillies.

Says Riya, "I'll never forget this particular scene that I had to do Shreyas. It was for my introduction scene where Shreyas and I bump into each other in the house. The scene then cuts to a part where we have to fall on a bed together — a bed full of chillies!"

To make matters worse, it was a hot day and the red chillies were all hot and burning in the sun. "We were shooting in Kamalistan Studios and it was really hot that day. I was wearing a white salwar kameez. Unfortunately there were many retakes and take after take, we had to keep on falling on the hot chillies. It was sheer torture, and my whole body began burning after a few takes. So much so that in between shots, unit hands had to keep rubbing ice over my back and my neck. My face was swollen too."

To top it all, Riya says she even had a sneezing fit initiated by the dry chillies. "I had a terrible time. I couldn't stop sneezing all over Shreyas during the shoot. It took all day just to film that one sequence. And what was supposed to be a romantic scene turned out to be most unromantic!" she says.

About her role, Riya says, "I play Anupam Kher's daughter in the film. I'm the only character in the film who is not after money, but after the one she loves (that's Shreyas Talpade). It was really a relief as for once I didn't have to worry about what outfit I was supposed to wear and whether it matched what every other girl in the film was wearing. I have designed many of the salwar kameezes I've worn in the film, myself."

Except for the hot scene however, Riya claims that she had a reasonable amount of fun shooting for the film. "Everyone was fun to work with- Shreyas, Celina, Ritesh. But Anupam Kher took the cake. He would always crack a joke just before a take and I would laugh and the take would get delayed. No one could say anything to him as he is senior, so it was always my fault!" she says with a laugh.
