Akshay takes time off for wife and son

Akshay Kumar has just returned rejuvenated with his wife from Monte Carlo. And now it's his son's turn. The first week of his 2-week holiday was devoted to his wife Twinkle while son Aarav had stayed back. Now the second lap of the holiday is exclusively devoted to Akshay and his son Aarav. "It's full-on male-bonding time now. If all three of us had been on a holiday together, I'd have been divided between my son and wife. And both would've felt cheated. By dividing my holiday time into two I can give myself completely to both."

While Akshay is on holiday with his son, he can't use the phone. "At least not when Aarav is around," grins Akshay. Recently, when Akshay was on 'Dus Ka Dum' with Salman Khan, the TRPs shot up to unprecedented heights.

A lot has been written about Akshay leopard-spot t-shirt on 'Dus Ka Dum'. Akshay is unperturbed. "I'm not here to go by definitions and standards of fashion set by others. I've always worn what I'm comfortable in. Why should I change that just because more people are watching me now? And I saw nothing wrong with the leopard-spotted t-shirt. When Brad Pitt wears a similar t-shirt everyone goes ooh and aah. I don't want people's approval about my clothes but my performances. Let me wear what I like," Akshay protests.

The success of Singh Is Kinng has put an extra responsibility on Akshay's shoulder. "I never thought it would be so big. Now that it is such a success, I feel I've got more than I deserve."

His anchoring of the reality show Fear Factor on the new channel Colors has also been a huge success. If rumours are to be believed, Akshay is already negotiating for a second season of Fear Factor and that too at a much steeper fee than Fear Factor 1.

Big clash on Christmas

Another news-break and as always, it's only on 'Bollywood Buzz'.

Last year, the Christmas week witnessed the release of WELCOME and TAARE ZAMEEN PAR. Both diametrically opposite films in terms of genre worked big time at the box-office. The films in question also cemented the status of the two stars associated with those films -- Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan, respectively.

Now Akshay and Aamir are all set to clash all over again. And it's Christmas time yet again. Aamir's GHAJINI is already confirmed for this date and if sources are to be believed, Akshay's CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA is also eyeing the Christmas week.

"Yes, we're looking at the date. But right now we are more concerned about the right chain of theatres, since GHAJINI is also arriving on this date. Plus, RAB NE BANA DI JODI [releasing on December 12] would also be retaining many screens. We've asked Warner Bros. [partners in C.C.T.C.] to get back to us about it. Only after they are clear vis-à-vis the screens will we take a call," Nikhil Advani tells me.

'Chandni Chowk To China' will not see a Diwali release

Here's another news-break and as always, you find it on 'Bollywood Hungama' first!

Akshay Kumar's much-awaited CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, directed by Nikhil Advani, was confirmed for Diwali release. But the film won't make it in the festive week. "There's some technical problem that has to be rectified," Nikhil Advani tells me. Will the film make it in the Diwali week? "No, it's not arriving in Diwali," producer Mukesh Talreja confirms, "The technical problem is being worked upon, but it is a time consuming process. The Prime Focus people are working on it. Plus, a lot of special effects are involved in our film. Our intention is to make a genuinely good film and we don't want to hurry up just because it's the Diwali week."

So what's the new release date? "Right now, we don't know the date yet. It could be November-end or December," Talreja reveals. Meanwhile, those looking for a clash between SRK [BILLO BARBER] and Akki [CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA] must be disappointed!

More on release dates: With CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA not arriving in Diwali, there's a strong possibility that GOLMAAL RETURNS, which was scheduled to arrive on November 7, will be preponed to Diwali [October 24]… YUVRAAJ might arrive in November/December/January. "We will take a call in a couple of days," Sunil Lulla of Eros tells me. Sunil also adds that BILLO BARBER is definitely arriving in Diwali.

Shah Rukh-Akshay Diwali clash unlikely!

Those who have monitored Bollywood proceedings over the last few years will recall that the first major instance of a King Khan and Khiladi Kumar starrer releasing together was back in 2004. It was Yash Chopra's VEER ZAARA against Subhash Ghai's Abbas-Mustan directed, AITRAAZ. While VEER ZARA went on to become a super-hit, netting well over 40 crores from India, AITRAAZ managed an above average status with around 18-19 crores.

The clash was repeated two years later, but this time around Shah Rukh Khan Khan's DON trounced the Salman-Akshay starrer JAAN-E-MANN comprehensively. On both the mentioned occasions it was the festive Eid-Diwali phase.

With the prospects of SRK's BILLOO BARBER and Akshay Kumar's CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA TOWN (CCTCT), releasing in close proximity, the headline grabbing yarns are already being spun about another clash between the two. However, as per our trade and distribution sources, Akshay's CCTCT will release on 24th October while SRK's BILLOO BARBER, featuring Irrfaan Khan in the title role, will hit the screens a week later on October 31.

Hopefully this should clear up matters, but our usual disclaimer: Release dates can change even at the eleventh hour!

Akshay's gesture: Flies to Toronto from LA for a day just for the Bachchans

Akshay Kumar's life has become a crazy blur of activities. He has been shooting non-stop in LA for Sajid Nadiadwala's Kambakth Ishq. He shot with Sylvester Stallone last week and then flew for a day on Friday to Toronto to be part of the Bachchans' first 'Unforgettable' concert.

The concert on Friday night went off spectacularly. On Sunday he was back in LA shooting for Kambakth Ishq. Says a source, "Since it's a stuntman's role Akshay has been given to do some of the most complicated stunts of his career. And there's no question of using body doubles. Akshay has decided to do all the stunts himself. How can he play a body double and get a body double to do the action scenes? Akshay wouldn't allow it although the producer Sajid Nadiadwala thought some stunts were way too dangerous. Out there at Universal Studios, all Hollywood actors are insured against dangerous stunts."

As though going black and blue with the breathtaking stunts wasn't enough, Akshay was also moonlighting in LA doing dance rehearsals for the Bachchan's 'Unforgettable' tour. Speaking from LA, Akshay said, "I joined the Bachchans for the first of their 'Unforgettable' concerts on Friday night (July 18) in Toronto. With the shooting and the rehearsals, I didn't know whether I was coming or going."

This is the only concert in the Bachchans' 'Unforgettable' tour that Akshay participated in. "There's no time for me to cram in any more activity," says Akshay who's currently stationed in LA with his wife and son, "far away from the maddening gossip and idle talk in Mumbai. I'm not bothered with what they're saying about me at home. And I'm happy that way."

More happiness spilled out when Akshay shot with Sylvester Stallone. Says a source very close to Akhay,"He had no time at all for the concert. But he's doing this for the love of the Bachchans. Akshay really respects the Bachchans. And Abhishek is one of his favourite co-stars. When Abhishek was still struggling, Akshay has predicted he'd be a star. Akshay really believed in Abhishek. When he was offered the concerts with the Bachchans, he accepted one performance as a token gesture and that too in Toronto which is like a second home to Akshay."

Adds Akshay, "Amitji is the most respected actor in our country. I'd do anything he asks me to. I wanted to do the concert in Toronto and I'm glad it went well."

New 'Chandni Chowk To China' Trailer

Deepika Unveils the First Look of 'Chandni Chowk To China'

Akshay Kumar talks action!

Akki talks about Bangkok, his first love, his new show and about the many stunts he’s pulled off

Meeting Akshay Kumar in Bangkok is like meeting him on his home ground. He’s shooting for Rohan Sippy at his ‘second home.’ In between the shoot, he took a day off to promote Viacom 18’s new channel ‘Colors’ on which he is hosting ‘Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi. Akshay is very kicked about being on the small-screen. Here he talks about being on the chota pardah, his bonding with Bangkok and his first love action. Excerpts from our chat…

You must feel quite at home in Bangkok.
Well there are many more new bridges here now than there used to be, but you have to pay ‘toll’, so nobody uses them, so traffic is still the nightmare it was. The massages are just as superb as always.

Truly, this is the most humble city in the world. The second you leave here, it’s like being whacked over the back of your head with a stick, back to civilization, mad moods, dodgy attitudes… So yes I am very fond of my second home, just wish the rest of the world was like Bangkok, then maybe even Mr Bin Laden himself might sell coconuts on the streets…

It seems a full circle. You started off as an action hero and today you are back to doing action. Do you feel as agile even today?
Are you trying to tell me my circle is over? Darling, didn’t you know I was planning an action comeback when I’m 60 as well, walking stick and all. And what makes you think I’m at the pinnacle of my career! I’m only half way around this so-called circle…. And as for my agility, my son definitely takes care of that for me.

This is your second show for TV. What made you return to it?
Well, the money is always a good factor, but honestly this time I think it’s the fact that I get to perform deadly stunts in front of 13 beautiful ladies… I mean you’ve seen it normally, the hero always has to do insane stunts chasing some ugly villain, now I finally get to impress my ladies live. So really, I think an equal amount of both, and you end up with a very happy Akshay Kumar, lots of stunts, heroines and a little piece of crispy paper with lots of little zeroes on it.

Would you have done this show ten years back on TV?
No… More people have TV now than 10 years back… What’s the point in half-killing yourself if no one’s going see you do it…

You’ve done several deadly stunts. Did you direct any?
I’d probably be dead by now if I hadn’t directed some of them. But one thing an actor should always remember is never upset your stunt co-ordinator. You never know what cable might accidentally snap when you just happen to be jumping off a 100 ft building…

What has been the toughest stunt that you’ve performed so far in your career?
Without a shadow of a doubt, it was my stunt in ‘Khiladi’ where I stood on a flying aircraft and insanely jumped onto a hot air balloon…Not only am I lucky to be alive, I’m lucky I could still have children after that one…

Does your family, especially your son enjoy watching your stunts?
Well, my mom watches my stunts intently with her eyes shut, my sister always pretends she needs to go to the loo and nothing ever phases my wife. And as for my son, he thinks I’m the human version of Tom and Jerry even though anything happens to me, he knows his Dad will always be alright. He is a mini version of me, he loves action.

Lastly, given a choice, how would you be like to be remembered?
I would like to be remembered as ‘the man who did it all’.

Dr. Khiladi Kumar

Though superstar Akshay (Khiladi) Kumar's year's first release TASHAN couldn't show any 'Tashan' at Box office but he did walk away with all the praises for his fantastic performance as usual.

The 'Khiladi' already has his hands full with esteem projects like Vipul Shah's SINGH IS KINNG, Warner Bros.'s CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, Nagesh Kukunoor's EIGHT BY TEN and Sajid Nadiadwala's KAMBAKKTH ISHQ as of now. And very soon he will be seen anchoring an action reality show 'Fear Factor-Khatron Ke Khiladi' on a new channel - Colors, with as many as 13 gorgeous ladies from Bollywood.

And if this was not enough there's one more feather in the crown waiting for Akshay Kumar in the form of a Doctorate. Akki will be bestowed an honorary doctorate by the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. It is heard that the University will honour Akshay on May 9. Akshay now has joined the league of honorary doctorate personalities like Yash Chopra, Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and Shilpa Shetty, who were conferred similar kind of honorary doctorates from foreign Universities in the past.

So, now Akshay Khiladi Kumar with a preceding 'Dr.' added to the name.

Action is easier than comedy - Akshay!

The original king of action, Akshay Kumar is returning to his forte with a hattrick of projects, all releasing later this year. The list goes something like this- TASHAN (April 25th), SINGH IS KINNG (August 8th) and CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA (October 2nd).

What may surprise many is that the current comedy king finds action easier than comedy! And he does have a logical reason for saying so. As per the 'Khiladi', a comic sequence depends a lot on the stars sharing the same frame. If they lack in comic timing, then the comedy scene turns in to a tragic one! In case of an action sequence, the work and the talent of the actor speaks for itself. There is no dependency on other stars. He goes on to say that today's audience sees a lot of Hollywood action flicks and are smart enough to distinguish between a computerized action sequence and an authentic one.

We must say that Akki has a point, in fact, a couple of them, and we are positive that the 'Khiladi' will reclaim his action king title (which has been lying vacant ever since he relinquished it), in the first round itself, that is with TASHAN!

Akshay on a roll!Akshay on a roll!

The year 2007 clearly belonged to Akshay Kumar and 2008 promises to be no different.

But while last year witnessed Akki at his funniest best in comical avatars, this year will see the superstar reclaim his Action King status. It’s a homecoming of sorts for the Khiladi who’s back to his forte of beating up baddies and performing his signature death-defying stunts after a hiatus of almost four years.

And the actor’s fans have more reasons to rejoice as Akki has not one, but almost four action films under his belt, including Kambaqth Ishq, Rohan Sippy’s Chandni Chowk to China, Vipul Shah’s Singh is Kingg and Yash Chopra’s Tashan.

Talking about the break from his action image, Akshay says, "I just wanted to explore all aspects of the spectrum, right from comedy to emotions and not be slotted in a particular image. What I want to do is entertain. But action is always closer to heart. After all, action does speak louder than words, doesn’t it?"
So, did he miss doing action in all the years? "No, my son made sure I get enough of it," laughs Akki referring to son Aarav who keeps his ‘daadaa’ on toes. On a serious note he adds, "I keep myself fit as action needs a very high standard of concentration and strength, so I have not really been away from it. But, of course, sometimes you miss being the tough guy who can dishum dishum the world."

And though the actor confesses that being a family man does make him think twice before performing any stunt, he’s not wary of going in for any daredevilry. "It’s action that has made me what I am today and the show must go on. We are entertainers after all, right?" he quips. Was it difficult getting back to action? "Nah, not really! Don’t forget my middle name, before King was Khiladi. Action is in my blood," says the actor. "Action may have evolved manifold, but at the core it still remains the same!"

Talking about the sea change he’s witnessed in the past few years, Akki says, "The boys are men now and this is where the tough get going. So you need to be really fit to pull of daredevil stunts. We are being watched and compared to the best, so we better be up to it." And what does he find more difficult making people laugh or doing scary stunts? "A stunt is when you compete with yourself. You are in control, but in comedy, your performance depends on your audience, so I would say comedy is more difficult." Are there any actors he looks up to? "Tom and Jerry! They’re good at both action and comedy. I don’t think anyone can beat them," pat comes the reply.
