Big clash on Christmas

Another news-break and as always, it's only on 'Bollywood Buzz'.

Last year, the Christmas week witnessed the release of WELCOME and TAARE ZAMEEN PAR. Both diametrically opposite films in terms of genre worked big time at the box-office. The films in question also cemented the status of the two stars associated with those films -- Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan, respectively.

Now Akshay and Aamir are all set to clash all over again. And it's Christmas time yet again. Aamir's GHAJINI is already confirmed for this date and if sources are to be believed, Akshay's CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA is also eyeing the Christmas week.

"Yes, we're looking at the date. But right now we are more concerned about the right chain of theatres, since GHAJINI is also arriving on this date. Plus, RAB NE BANA DI JODI [releasing on December 12] would also be retaining many screens. We've asked Warner Bros. [partners in C.C.T.C.] to get back to us about it. Only after they are clear vis-à-vis the screens will we take a call," Nikhil Advani tells me.

Aamir's GHAJINI hairdo, a fashion statement!

Amitabh and his centre-parting 'Vijay' hairstyle (for almost a decade!), Salman Khan's TERE NAAM 'Radhey' look and John Abraham's 'Kabeer' tresses (JISM and DHOOM) all became highly popular with the youth and sporting them became a fashion statement.

Amongst this craze there was this perfectionist actor doing his own thing little things. Yes, it's Aamir Khan that we are referring to, who has this knack of publicizing the look of his upcoming projects well in advance, so that the people get used to his get up. Be it the MANGAL PANDEY look with long flowing manes and whiskers or the TAARE ZAMEEN PAR 'Mohawk' cum punk hairdo, Aamir made it a point to be seen in all public appearances, events, functions and even in advertisements in the mentioned style. And now with his next film coming up, Aamir can be seen everywhere with his GHAJINI look, almost bald pate with injury channels running across his skull. Be it the Samsung mobile ad, the premier of his nephew's JAANE TU...YA JAANE NA, the DVD launch of TAARE ZAMEEN PAR or even the infamous Katrina Kaif birthday party!

However this time Aamir's hairstyle is being lapped up by his fans and youth who can be seen on streets, shopping malls, college and sport events. Maybe the hot humid climate too is helping the cause! So, it definitely augers well for the November 28 release.

Aamir-Imran on Cine Blitz cover

With just a few days to go for the release of Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na, Aamir Khan and his nephew Imran Khan are all over the place. The duo is now seen in this month's issue of Cine Blitz magazine. Both mamu Aamir and his bhanja Imran are seen dressed in their formal best wearing dapper suits.

Imran shares an interesting anecdote of how this is only the second time that he has worn a suit in his life (the first time being during the premiere of mamu Aamir's debut film QSQT). The duo seems to be enjoying each other's company and by the looks of it, this is one mama-bhanja jodi who are going to be spoken about for years to come.

Aamir Vs his Nephew

Aamir Khan starrers have clashed with various actors in the past, but come October 2 and Aamir will battle it out with nephew Imraan Khan.

KIDNAP -- directed by DHOOM and DHOOM 2 director Sanjay Gadhvi and produced by reputed production house Ashtavinayak -- was initially slated for release on August 21. But the film has been shifted ahead, it is now confirmed for October 2, the same date as the Aamir starrer GHAJINI. Incidentally, both GHAJINI and KIDNAP are distributed by Studio 18.

“October 2 [Thursday] happens to be Gandhi Jayanti and it promises to be a long weekend. It coincides with Idd this year as well and since both GHAJINI and KIDNAP are action films, we expect a thunderous start for the films,” Aman Gill of Studio 18 confirms.

Have they spoken to Aamir about it? What's his reaction to the mama-bhanja clash? “Of course, we did speak to Aamir about it. And he's pretty excited about it. Aamir also feels that two good films can easily co-exist in a week,” Aman adds. Expect fireworks on October 2.

Buy Imran, get Ghajini free!

Aamir is offering Ghajini as a package deal with his nephew Imran’s debut to TV channels

Harman Baweja’s Love Story 2050 and Imran Khan’s (Aamir Khan’s nephew) Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (JTYJN) are both releasing on the same day. Both films are being marketed aggressively. One way of promoting a film is throug media tie-ups, with publications and TV channels to give editorial support.

Says a source, “Aamir is in talks with some TV channels for the tie-up of Imran’s film and he has offered Ghajini to anyone who will take it as a package deal with JTYJN.”

Harman’s debut was fixed on July 4 long before Aamir’s home production JTYJN, chose the same date to make its release. Now the two newbies are pitted against each other, even though the films are not in the same category.

Love Story 2050 is a mega budget film and has star value thanks to Priyanka Chopra, while JTYJN has been made on a more modest budget and has Genelia D’Souza. Aamir realises that, and so he wants to push his nephew’s film.

Says a source, “Aamir is great at marketing. Look what he did with Taare Zameen Par. And now he has put all his marketing skills behind Imran’s film. He has personally looked into every aspect of the film. From the story to the post-production. When the film was complete, he blogged about his nephew, introducing him to all his fans.”

All the comments made by readers were in favour of Imran, which is fine, but there were many anti-Harman comments which were surprising.” The negative Harman comments have now been deleted.

I am readying myself for my next release. JAANE TU. When I say ‘my’ I mean Aamir Khan Productions’. After Lagaan and Taare Zameen Par this will be our third release and I am keen to complete a hat-trick. Today the first promo breaks on TV.

It should be up on the website www.jaanetu.com as well. This will be my nephew Imran’s first film, I think I’ll post a photo of him. Tell me what you think of the promo, and him.

Despite setbacks GHAJINI to release on time

After his first injury, followed by a more grievous one the second time around, Aamir Khan has been advised a three weeks rest by his doctor. For the few who are not very aware of the happenings, we are referring to the climax shooting of Aamir Khan's next release, GHAJINI, where unfortunately the actor perfectionist was injured twice during the climax action sequence.

Needless to add that the unfortunate happenings have provided fodder feed to the gossip mongers, who have already done a few 'breaking' scoops. The news have mostly centered on how Aamir Khan's stubborn approach has led to the postponement of GHAJINI from its already announced October 2 release date.

However, Aamir Khan's close family sources assure us that Aamir is determined to stick to the original release schedule of the film, come what may!

Well, knowing the 'Bhuvan' of LAGAAN, we are not surprised, and here is wishing Aamir a speedy recovery.

Jiah joins Aamir does dangerous stunts in Ghajini

Female power is in. Deepika Padukone is busy matching Akshay Kumar's kicks and somersaults in Bangkok for Nikhil Advani's Chandni Chowk To China. Nearer home in Hyderabad, Jiah Khan matched stunt strides with Aamir Khan.

Though thankfully, she hasn't had any mishaps yet. Jiah's lithe stunts in Murugadoss' Ghajini are every bit as heart-in-the-mouth as Aamir Khan's. The only reason Jiah's action scenes aren't being talked-about are because she isn't talking about it. "I can't! I'm not allowed to," she quakes with contractual terror. "But yes, I've done a lot of action scenes in Ghajini. They've been extremely unnerving."

The action sequences require Jiah to match Aamir kick for kick. "And they are one reason I had to lose so weight," she admits, having returned from Hyderabad where the Ghajini shooting was wrapped up earlier this week. "The schedules don't suffer because of Aamir's accident at all. We resume in the middle of May as per schedule."

On Tuesday Jiah started shooting in Mumbai for Ken Ghosh's film with Shahid Kapoor. "That's the film I'm not supposed to do," she jokes. "It's so cheap to send compromising messages in someone else's name," Jiah suggests that the sms messages that embarrassed Shahid Kapoor and almost had her out of the project were sent off by someone else in her name.

"I've never sent sms to people in the industry beyond work. I'm so new to all this manipulation scheming and negativity. I'm just so happy to be doing two films like Ghajini and Ken Ghosh's film where I've completely different roles."

Aamir has seriously injured himself again

Ghajini's shooting schedule in Hyderabad has gone for a toss. Aamir Khan has injured his hamstring muscle yet again while shooting for the film yesterday afternoon (Sunday afternoon in Hyderabad). Just last week, Aamir had injured his hamstring while performing an action sequence following which he took rest for a couple of days before getting back to work.

Our source from the sets says, "Aamir did not want the shooting of Ghajini to suffer because of his injury. Everyone on the sets was against him pushing himself, but Aamir was insistent that we should shoot close ups. He spoke to the director A R Murgadoss and decided to shoot the close up sequences which wouldn't aggravate his injury."

However, it was a bad idea as his muscle got further strained. Adds the source, "He was chasing the bad guy, he stepped in a wrong position and his hamstring muscle got torn. After the shot was 'Okayed' for almost 40 minutes, Aamir was unable to stand up. Initially, everyone on the sets thought that Aamir was pulling a fast one, but only when he started screaming in pain, everyone got moving."

A Physiotherapist was present on the set and he requested for a specialist to be called in. Aamir had to be carried and was taken to a local hospital. He has been asked to take three weeks of complete bed rest and the shooting has been cancelled. The source says, "He will be coming to Mumbai in a day or two, once doctors allow him to travel, after which he will be resting at his Bandra residence."

    A. R. Murgadoss, the director of the film says, "It happened on the day we were shooting some crucial sequences with Aamir. Although he had supported his leg, he got into an awkward position while shooting and he seriously injured himself again. Shooting can hold. We all right now are worried about his well being".

Aamir takes a break

Aamir Khan has been advised against working out until he fully recovers from an injury he sustained on his inner thigh while shooting. The advice comes from Aamir’s trainer, Satyajit Chaurasia.

Says a source, “Aamir has been sporting an athletic toned body for the bare-bodied scenes he’s shot for the Hindi remake of the south film Ghajini. “Aamir is very serious about his workouts. Even though he’s injured the muscle in his inner thigh he wanted to continue his workouts. It was only after his trainer advised him not to, did he take it seriously.”

Satyajit Chaurasia confirms that Aamir has taken a break, “Yes. Aamir won’t be working out for the next 15 days.” He reasons, “Firstly, he’s travelling and is quite busy. It doesn’t make sense to squeeze in a workout session into his tight schedule. Secondly, he’s already shot for the bare-bodied scenes for the film.”

Has he advised him any light exercises to compensate for the break? “No. He’s taking a total break. We will resume his training May 10 onwards. By that time, he will have recovered from his injury.” Has been also following a new diet as well ? “Not really,” replies Chaurasia.

Lights, camera, accident

Amitabh Bachchan, whose grievous injury while shooting Coolie in 1982 brought the whole film industry to its knees, made a pertinent point recently.

“The accident that happened in Coolie changed my life. When I saw a repeat of that incident on the sets of Khakee, I relived my horrid experiences. I also wondered if the film industry will ever learn from its past experiences!”

With Aamir Khan getting injured on the sets of Ghajini last week, one thing is clear – the lessons have not been learnt. Before that, Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vivek Oberoi have hurt themselves while shooting for stunts. What ails Bollywood’s stunt record – is it the actors’ insistence to do their own stunts or is it the lack of a safe set-up?

    No safety concerns

Director Vivek Agnihotri, whose forte has been action films, says, “We still approach action sequences like any other sequence, ie without much safety. Accidents happen when enough safety measures are not taken. Also, not enough time is given to prepare these shots. Third, there are no contractual obligations. Once you have, like Hollywood, enough penalties and insurance-based health and safety regulations, things will change.”

Filmmaker Prabhakar Shukla half-agrees with Vivek. “Actors shouldn’t be insistent about doing their own stunts. In more than one case, they have ended up hurting themselves and shooting has been stalled. They should realise that there is a lot of money riding on them and that one stunt gone wrong can affect an entire film,” he says.

    Fight finish

Fight choreographer Kanishk Sharma of Don and Goal fame feels the attitude of stars is not right. “Actors don’t warm up before an action scene. They just want to get over with it. The way you can’t play cricket after sprinting for 100 or 200 metres, you can’t do an action scene safely if you haven’t warmed up.” And who are the actors who get to the stunts straight? “Most of them do. What needs to be popularised is to train before the actual shoot. Shah Rukh trained for two-and-a-half months before he took on the real action scenes in Don. Though there is a lot of padding and a physiotherapist is present on the sets, chances of an accident can’t be averted fully,” he answers.

Stunt director Allan Amin says, “Despite full security et al, actors hurt themselves. Keanu Reeves, who I think does the best stunts, also hurt himself while he was shooting Matrix. All that one can do is take caution.” Is there any way to avoid these incidents? “Yes, many a times. Some times, we just abort the stunt for the day. We tell ourselves that we’ll do it the next day with a fresh mind. That is the only thing that helps!” he answers.

    Star speak

But what makes a star do his or her own stunt? Koena Mitra who is training to do her own stunts in a Hollywood flick says, “It is not nice to chicken out. And accidents happen everywhere. All you can do is train properly and take precautions.” Hrithik Roshan, who injured himself on the sets of Krissh, told DT then, “I requested dad for that extra take for my last action scene in Krissh and ended hurting myself. We were fortunate that it was the last scene though otherwise it would have put the entire cast and crew in trouble.” Kamal Haasan was more reasonable after he got hurt on the sets of Mumbai Express. “I realised that I may not have been lucky a second time. After the hospital, it could have been the morgue.”

    Stunts gone awry

Aamir Khan injured his adductor muscles while trying to lift a 100 kg man for an action scene in the film Ghajini

During a chase stunt in Khakee , Akshay Kumar’s car got out of control and hit Aishwarya. She was also hurt on the sets of Guru

Akshay banged his head against a wooden cabinet during the shooting of Garam Masala and was also involved in an accident while shooting for a cola commercial

In Apharan , Ajay Devgan dislocated a joint

Hrithik landed in a soup tearing his hamstring during the shooting of Krissh

Vivek Oberoi fractured his leg while shooting for Yuva

While filming Mumbai Express , Kamal Haasan lost control over a motorbike, hurting himself seriously in the process

Amitabh Bachchan was grievously injured during the shooting of Coolie

Aamir Khan injured while shooting for Ghajini

After having won accolades by a ton for Taare Zameen Par and with his new film Ghajini generating curiosity every passing day, life couldn't have been better for 'The Perfectionist' Aamir Khan.

But luck had something else in store for him in the form of a hamstring muscle injury while performing an action sequence for Ghajini. The scene was such that Aamir had to pick up a very bulky man and throw him against the wall and due to this Aamir pulled his hamstring muscle while he was enacting the action scene. This happened at Ramuji Rao Studios in Hyderabad yesterday. A Physiotherapist was then called in for Aamir.

The Ghajini team has been canning some complex action shots since past few days which are important part of the film. However, due to Aamir's injury, the shooting of the film has been indefinitely postponed.

Aamir Khan starrer Ghajini remake is titled Ghajini

It's final! After having had the whole of Bollywood play the guessing game over the title of Aamir Khan's forthcoming film, which is the remake of a Tamil film, Ghajini, the wait is finally over, as the makers have decided to retain the same name. In other words, the title of the film is finalised to be Ghajini.

Says the Ghajini director, A R Murugadoss, "Yes, we have decided to call it as Ghajini, same as the original film, as it has already got very popular and immediately gets identified with Aamir Khan among the Hindi film audiences. If you read Aamir Khan's blog; most of his blogs refer to the film or talk about the film as Ghajini … so after a lot of deliberation we have decided to go with the original title itself".

Now that the title is finalised and Aamir's new look revealed, we are just cant wait for the release day of Ghajini.

Aamir shoots for Ghajini remake in Hyderabad

We all know about Aamir Khan - the dedicated actor, director et al. But very few know about Aamir- the father. Before leaving for Hyderabad last week for Ghajini's shooting; Aamir spent the entire day with his children, since it will be only after one month or more that he will get to be with them.

For starters, Aamir has been working like a machine for more than a whopping 12 hours everyday since last Thursday to wrap up the last lap of Ghajini's shoot in Hyderabad.

And for his role in Ghajini, 'Mr Perfectionist' Aamir has been rigorously training for 4 hours a day from last one and half years, and has also got himself the new designer buzz look. So, what gets added to those 12 hours is yet another 4 hours of work!

Wonder from where does he derive so much of his energy from?

Aamir Khan gets scarred!

To shoot for the remaining portions of his 'Eid' release, GHAJINI, actor perfectionist Aamir Khan has gone almost bald. As is known, Aamir made an appearance at the premier of Abbas-Mustan's RACE, last month, at IMAX Adlabs, Wadala Bombay, sporting his new look.

It is obvious that Aamir, who rarely makes appearances at public events, wants to familiarize the audience with his new look, just like the way he went around flaunting his MANGAL PANDEY get-up!

While on Aamir's new look, most people already knew about his almost baldpate, but there are still a lot of enquiries about the reason behind Aamir sporting a scar on his head. Well, we will disclose the reason and satisfy the curiosity. In the upcoming October 2 release, GHAJINI, Aamir Khan gets hit on the head by the villains, because of which he loses his memory. The scar is a result of the injury inflicted by the bad men of GHAJINI!

Anti-Climax

Aamir Khan has got the makers to change the script of his yet untitled remake of Tamil film, Ghajini. Aamir insisted on changing the remake’s climax as he was unhappy with the last 30 minutes of the original version.

Our source says, “After getting a new look for Ghajini’s remake, Aamir has begun the new schedule of the remake with various changes in the film’s pre-climax and climax portions.

The Tamil version’s climax takes place in a medical college where the hero (actor Surya) takes on the villain played by Aamir’s Lagaan co-star Pradeep Singh Rawat, who is also involved in human trafficking.

There is a double role of the villain and the hero fights both of them in a hand-to-hand combat. But before the fight happens, the villain and his goons chase the second heroine (played by Nayanthara) to her college after which they disrobe and kill a medical student. The goons then announce that they shall continue to kill students until the hero comes out of hiding.

“Aamir knows that his biggest fan base is the family audience. Now, after the respect that he has earned post Taare Zameen Par and his rising popularity with children, Aamir wouldn’t like the remake to have any content which he doesn’t believe in. That’s why he has got the entire climax rewritten. Apart from the changes in the last 30 minutes of the film, the Hindi version remains true to the
    original,” adds the source.

Khan v/s Khan v/s Khan this October

It's going to be one smash hit festive season this October as films starring the three mega Khans hit the screens. These are Aamir Khan's remake of GHAJINI, Saif Ali Khan's animation flick ROADSIDE ROMEO and Salman Khan's YUVRAAJ.

Each of the three films is special since they tell a story belonging to different genres. While GHAJINI is hardcore 'masala' entertainer with loads of action, drama, romance and emotions, ROADSIDE ROMEO is a comic entertainer with Yash Raj Films' first foray into the world of animation. Kareena Kapoor and Javed Jaffrey are Saif's partners as they dub for the animated characters.

On the other hand YUVRAAJ is a mega film for Subhash Ghai as he aims at making a big comeback with this dramatic musical. With names like Anil Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and A.R. Rahman involved, YUVRAAJ has a lot in stakes for everyone involved.

All three projects being prestigious and much anticipated in their own right, GHAJINI, ROADSIDE ROMEO and YUVRAAJ have already made the month of October look extremely hot. While GHAJINI arrives on 2nd October, the remaining two flicks clash on Diwali i.e. 24th October.

Aamir talks about Raju Hirani's film

There’s tremendous speculation vis-à-vis Aamir Khan’s new film. With Aamir’s directorial debut TAARE ZAMEEN PAR releasing this week, the actor can go back to studios and take instructions from other directors. “I need to complete work on the remake of GHAJINI first. We’re halfway through with this film. The makers have been kind enough to wait for me,” Aamir tells me.

There’s talk that the actor has agreed to work in Rajkumar Hirani’s new film, to be produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. “Yes, we’re in negotiations,” Aamir confirms the development. But what about the news that Vidhu requested Aamir to suggest [any] changes in the script, before they start shooting, not once the shooting begins. “What can I say about such absurd allegations? Vidhu never said anything to that effect. Raju is someone I really admire as a film-maker and Vidhu is a great person,” Aamir sets the record straight.
