Exclusive: Check out SRK sporting a moustache and glasses in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Of late, the Baadshah of Bollywood- Shah Rukh Khan has been maintaining a low profile. After all, he has been busy shooting for two of his upcoming films namely Priyadarshan' Billoo Barber and Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. But you can't keep King Khan out of action and out of news for long. Can you?

Shah Rukh Khan was spotted shooting for Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi along with newcomer Anushka Sharma at the beautiful Golden Temple in Amritsar early this week. However, what caught our instant attention was the fact that King Khan was sporting a moustache during the shoot. This was a far cry from his look in any of his recent releases and did come as a pleasant surprise. SRK has earlier sported a moustache in films like Paheli, Army and English Babu Desi Mem to name a few. But his look in with specs et al in this Yash Raj production has taken everyone by surprise. This time around, looks like the actor is playing a matured character. Wonder what other surprises director Aditya Chopra has in store for all of us. As for newcomer Anushka, she looked every bit the Punjabi kudi.

Must say after seeing Shah Rukh in this new look, the curiosity to know more about Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi only increases for all die-hard SRK fans.

Sukhwinder is Shah Rukh's voice again!

'Chaiyya Chaiyya', 'Kuch Kariye' and 'Dard-e-Disco'! So, why are we mentioning the hit numbers of King Khan, rendered by the matchless, Sukhwinder Singh? Well, there is a reason and a very good one too!

It is a well known fact that whenever Sukhwinder has lent his vocals for a song picturised on Shah Rukh Khan, it has turned out to be a blockbuster. Whether, it was the entertaining dance number atop a train, 'Chaiyya Chaiyya' (DIL SE) or the most recent 'Dard-e- Disco' (OM SHANTI OM), the Sukhwinder-SRK 'jodi' has always belted out chart-scorchers! And now the good news is that the same 'jodi' is back once again to enthrall us all and this time around the composers are the talented duo, Salim-Sulaiman. Yes, it is the same combination that gave us the (unofficial) National Sports anthem, 'Kuch Kariye' (CHAK DE! INDIA) which can be heard even now at almost every victory celebrations featuring Indian teams.

Well, Salim-Sulaiman has once again roped in Sukhwinder Singh to render two of their compositions, to be picturised on Shah Rukh Khan in Aditya Chopra's upcoming RAB NE BANA DI JODI. One hears that the songs were recorded recently and news is that they are both awesome tracks!

Heavy rains destroy SRK's 'RNBDJ' sets

Aditya Chopra who is back to the director’s seat after eight long years had to go through a heavy loss before the completion of his movie Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi . Chopra commenced shooting from May 16 at Filmcity. A huge set was constructed in film city where Chopra was shooting with Shah Rukh and his new actress recently. Unfortunately the set has been destroyed due to the heavy rains.

It is believed that Rs 4 crores was spent to build the set. When contacted YFR spokesperson Monika confirms, “Yes it’s true that the set which was erected for RNBDJ has been destroyed due to heavy rains. They started shooting on May 16 and finished that shooting schedule long back so the destruction of the set does not matter. They have finished the schedule in film city and they are now shooting in Yash Raj studio.”

Setbacks and losses are not new for big films. Tragedy is a constant companion in the film production business. It can be recalled that Sanjay Leela Bhansali was shooting in Film City when the sets at the studio caught fire and the total gear of the movie was destroyed.

RNBDJ is Shah Rukh’s third film with Aditya Chopra after Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Mohabbatein and film buffs would like to see the magic being recreated on celluloid.

''Yash Raj Films is home for me''

Who would think that 13 years had passed since the first time this jodi came together? At that time, the director was merely the scion of a great filmmaking family and the star was best known for taking on negative roles that no one else would. Then the magic they conjured up in their first film together, redefined Hindi cinema and set them on their respective paths to the heights of glory.

Now 13 years after DILWALE DULHANIYA LE JAYENGE first took the country by storm, and eight years after MOHABBATEIN, the jodi of Aditya Chopra, superstar director, and Shah Rukh Khan, superstar actor were together again, this time for the latest from Aditya Chopra as director, RAB NE BANA DI JODI with newcomer Anushka Sharma who joined in on the first day of shoot. And it was evident that Shah Rukh Khan was approaching this new role with his old comrade, with as much gusto and passion as ever.

'Starting the first day of shooting is what still gives me goose bumps like nothing else', said King Khan. 'And to make films with Yash Raj, that too when Adi is directing, is an experience that is more than 100% exciting. Yash Raj Films is, and will always be, home for me and who doesn't love coming home? Yash ji and Adi have always given me roles that have gotten me love and appreciation from fans all over the world. And this time Adi has again written a character for me to play that I think will become as beloved as Raj of DDLJ was. I am going to be trying as usual to hit it out of the park with RAB NE BANA DI JODI.'

And with these words, Shah Rukh Khan signed off from the first day of shooting, conveying to the world that something special was in the air, the most awaited film of the year was rolling as planned, and the Aditya Chopra - Shah Rukh Khan jodi were again creating that little bit of magic! Newcomer Anushka Sharma who was eagerly looking forward to this day ...the first day of shoot, for her the dream has just begun!

Yash Chopra was also present on the sets of RAB NE BANA DI JODI on the first day of shoot to bless his son and the unit at the onset of this new production.

Shah Rukh is all set to prove himself

For those who think that Shah Rukh Khan cannot play anything beyond stereotypical characters, think again.

Shah Rukh’s close buddy Karan Johar has challenged Shah Rukh’s acting abilities by asking him to play an autistic in his next, My Name is Khan .

No doubt SRK will take inspiration from Dustin Hoffman, who played an autistic in Rain Man (1988). Rain Man is a 1988 film by Barry Levinson, which tells the story of an abrasive, selfish yuppie, Charlie Babbitt, who discovers that his father has left all of his multimillion-dollar estate to his brother, Raymond, a savant, whom he never knew existed.

Shah Rukh did not take long to say ‘yes’ to Karan. Our well-placed source in Bollywood says, “SRK can’t wait for the film to begin. He is very excited about playing this different character.” Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder, which starts off in childhood. It is characterised by impaired communication, excessive rigidity, and emotional detachment.

“However, he will have to wait, since My Name Is Khan has been delayed. Karan had allowed Aditya Chopra to start Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi first, so SRK will first free himself from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (opposite the 19-year old Bangalorean newcomer Anushka Sharma) and then get on to this challenging role,” our source adds.

A source close to Shah Rukh says, “He’s adventurous and dares to take risks, he dares to be different, and he dares to break all rules. It is a misconception that he is repetitive and does not like to play different characters. His performances in Swades and Chak De! India are the best examples to prove this point. My Name Is Khan will be a trump card in SRK’s repertoire. Playing an autistic person will be challenging. Shah Rukh will have to do a lot of homework.”

I was never offered Adi’s film: Sonam

Sonam Kapoor feels relieved now that Aditya Chopra has finally found a girl for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in Bangalore-based model Anushka Sharma, who will star opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the film. B-Town buzz was that Sonam was to be part of the project.

Says the Saawariya actress, “Ever since the project was announced, there was speculation about me being in it. I was never offered the film. I don’t know where the whole thing started. To be honest, I did visit Adi a couple of times like any other actor. But not for any particular role.

Maybe people saw me entering Yash Raj. Nowadays, even if an actress passes by Yash Raj, she has signed a film with them.”

But Anushka does resemble Sonam? “Does she? Hmm... Is that a compliment to me or to her? I never even approached Adi for the role. I had a reason not to. I know it required someone very Punjabi-looking and young.

I’ve just played a full-on Punjabi kudi — salwar-kameez sharara-gharara and all, in Rakeysh Mehra’s Dilli 6. Even in Saawariya, I was in Indian clothes. Now I need a change of pace and grace.”

She adds, “I’m not signing anything in a hurry. I’ve all the time in the world and the best advisor any actress in Bollywood could have — my dad (Anil Kapoor).”

Apparently, Sonam was also offered the role Barbara Mori is doing in Anurag Basu’s Kites with Hrithik Roshan. Wouldn’t this sizzling heroine’s character change Sonam’s demure image?

She is tight-lipped about the Roshan project. “All I’ll say is I’d never compromise on anything. I’d never do anything where I would have to cringe at the premiere.”

Adi creates Chandigarh in Mumbai

Aditya Chopra is recreating the Punjab outdoors in Film City to save time shooting for his directorial comeback

For his new movie Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Aditya Chopra will recreate Chandigarh in Film City, Goregaon, where he will shoot the exterior portions of his movie. Earlier, in Mohabbatein, Adi had passed London off as Nainital.

Says a source, “The story of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is based in Chandigarh. Adi has been busy supervising the mega set erected at Film City’s Devdas Maidan. They are doing it all — from the sarson-ke-khet to the outside of the actress’s Anushka Sharma) house.

The interiors, however, will be shot at a set, which has been erected at Yash Raj Studios. Both these sets will be done in the next 10 days or so and Adi will begin shooting for the film.”

The source further adds, “The shooting will kickstart without Shah Rukh though. The actor will only come in the last week of the month-long schedule, which Aditya has planned.

After this shooting stint, the unit leaves for an overseas location with SRK.” The movie is due to release on December 12.

Meet SRK's New Heroine - Introducing Anushka Sharma

The whole of the cyber world is in a tight spot since yesterday. The reason being that since yesterday, whenever someone did a synonym search for the words ‘beautiful’, ‘stunning’, ‘elegant’, ‘attractive’, ‘striking’, ‘gorgeous’, all the results lead to just one synonym, and that is ‘Anushka Sharma’. If you are still wondering ‘who on earth is Anushka Sharma?’ then let us spill the beans, that this is the name which will be echoed for eras to come by one and by all, because she is the answer (read ‘blessing’) to Aditya Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan’s long, long patience for the lead star opposite the King Khan in Aditya’s next directorial venture Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (RNBDJ). It’s a common knowledge that both Aditya and Shah Rukh have been scouting the lengths and breadths of the country to find the lead heroine for RNBDJ.

Now that Anushka has signed Yashraj’s dotted lines, we are very sure that the her fingers will very soon develop biceps, not for any other reason, but for the only reason that she will have to give autographs to her would be zillion fan following… which are simply the makings and the markings of the ‘Yashraj Heroine’.

“Don't cry for a man who has left you, the next one may fall for your smile. And we are sure that we are indeed the next one”

They say that every true love story has a happy ending. If the ending isn’t happy, then it’s not a true love story at all. Well, looking at the happy face and infectious smile that Anushka is blessed with; one thing is for sure that Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi will surely make the audiences happy by the end.

“Rumors that go around are rumors - until you experience it for yourself.”

Well, if the rumors about Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’s lead heroine were true then, needless to say that Anushka Sharma would still be an unknown name, coz’ there were rumors that Sonam Kapoor was signed as the lead. But by signing the fresh and effervescent Anushka, all the rumors have been put to rest!

“For I dipped into the future, far as human eye could see,
Saw the vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be”

With the King of Romance Shah Rukh Khan himself romancing you (on screen of course), is there anything left on your ‘Impossible Dreams’ wish list, girl? After Deepika Padukone making a dream debut opposite SRK, Anushka is the next super lucky girl.

“I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.”

For this Bangalore girl who has never faced the camera before, except for walking the ramp for Wendell Rodricks, it is indeed a dream come true; even before she could have ever dreamt of dreaming about it!

“If you do not get the right person as your role model, then simply roll yourself inside out and become your own role model.”

If you ask Anushka about her well maintained body and lustrous hair, you can only hear her Whisper that the secret for her Silk & Shine hair is her dedication towards her hair-work and work-outs, for which she could just be travelling in her Fiat Palio.

If you are wondering that there’s something strange about the abovementioned line, then, let us tell you that if you read between the lines, you will get to know the products that this chic has endorsed when she was a model.

“Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it.”

It is always said that uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. But looking at jumpstart that Anushka has got, we doubt if this debutante will have any stopping!

"You are bound to get up every morning with determination, if you're going to go to bed with satisfaction."

And if a dream debut in the most prestigious Yashraj banner is not satisfying enough, then, what is??? We bet that you will agree with this. After all, jiski Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, bhala us par koi kaise maar paayega hathodi? What say, Anushka!

Shah Rukh Khan is back!

Ever since the release of OM SHANTI OM, Shah Rukh Khan is being seen all over. However, most of his appearances have been off the big screen. Either he is seen in commercials or cricket matches or music videos or small screen game shows.

Yes, there have been a couple of big screen appearances as well but they too have been restricted to barely 5 mins. While he only recited a poem for friend Samar Khan's SHAURYA (which came during the end titles), he had an item number in KRAZZY 4. Beyond this, his die hard fans have patiently waited to see him doing something worthwhile on the big screen.

The wait should now be over this weekend with the release of BHOOTHNATH. Though Amitabh Bachchan plays the central protagonist and Aman Siddiqui plays the kid around whom the film revolves, the film also stars Shah Rukh Khan.

As the kid's father and Juhi Chawla's husband, he features prominently in the film and though he is being billed as 'special appearance', he is present for a good 25 minutes in the film as per the makers of BHOOTHNATH.

Of course this is just a starter as the main course would begin with Priyadarshan's BILLO BARBER which arrives in next few months. And yes, the grand finale is very much in the pipeline, what with the release of Aditya Chopra's RAB NE BANA DI JODI which is all set to arrive on 12th December.

SRK: an actor, a host, a producer, a husband and a father

If you think earning lots of moolah is the only thing on Shah Rukh Khan’s mind, think again.

The actor who already has helped set up a pediatric ward at a city hospital now wants to set up a ward for cancer patients too. "I get embarrassed to talk about such things. The hospital people were kind enough to name the pediatric ward after my mother. I hope to set up a centre for cancer patients later this year," he reveals. But that’s not all, SRK even has plans to set up a hospital.

"That’s my final dream. Though I don’t know when that will be possible. I keep telling my wife that I have to do this and she keeps telling me that I can do it only when I stop doing the other things," he says.
But of course, there’s loads of work to be done too. Besides his role, that of a host in Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hai?, the actor is back at the studios doing what he does best acting!

His two films this year are Billoo Barber and Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. But there’s no denying the fact that we are seeing a lot of SRK on the small screen than the big one. "It’s not that I am too much on TV, it’s just that there’s lot of TV happening these days. Cinema is no more the only form of entertainment. We are talking about watching films on mobile phones. Five years from now, I may be doing a movie that may be released on cellphones. Does that mean I become smaller or has the reach increased," he questions. And the talk of his big comeback on TV, doesn’t impress SRK much. "This thing of ‘you started with TV and came back to TV...’ I have always been on TV."

But aren’t there too many endorsements, shows, etc that he’s doing on TV? "No, just day before yesterday I was thinking I am doing very less," he smiles the famous dimpled smile. Be it films, TV or cricket, SRK has conquered every pitch. It looks like the name SRK is now synonymous with success. "For success you need to know that you can go wrong and yet go ahead and do it. People who do wrong things, like stealing or murder, have overcome the thought that this is wrong. They have found their justification. Positively, if we apply the same, it will work. As soon as you accept that this can go wrong, the fear of failure decreases. If tomorrow I face failure, I hope I can say I enjoyed failure too," he philosophises.

Astrologers and industry people often talk about the brilliant planetary positions that SRK has been blessed with, so is luck as important for his success? "Giving all the credit to luck takes away from the hard work involved. People will say I got a good show and it’s our luck that the show’s doing well. But there’s a lot of hard work involved here. I am not successful by luck, but because I am in the right place. I am not special. Eight years ago I thought I was, but after that, I think there is a set of audience that likes my work," he states matter-of-factly.

And despite spending so many years in the industry, Shah Rukh thrives on one thing, "Giving a perfect shot. Be it in films or TV. For example, when I get the timing of a joke right. I can live off it for 10-20 days." But hosting is one thing that tires even the super-energetic King Khan. "TV work is very difficult. Especially quiz shows. It’s almost live. Also, there are many factors like unknown contestants, dealing with kids, the 200 lights and after all that, there’s a deadline to adhere to. I can work for 20 hours. I can dance, fight, do press conferences and not get tired, but with this I get tired. Also a show like Kya Aap... needs something from the host. There is a certain responsibility and I never shirk away from responsibilities. But yes, it is tiring and I get a headache at the end of the day. But the problem is when I return home, my kids want me to ask them the same questions again. So I have to sit down and do that," he says.

An actor, a host, a producer, a husband and a father. SRK has many roles, so who’s the real SRK? He says, "Honestly, even I don’t know myself. You keep acting the whole day. You do lot of things that are larger than life. Lines start getting blurred after a point. The closest I came to playing myself was in KBC and now this show. On the show I emote the way I would in real life."

Sonam Kapoor to star opposite Shah Rukh Khan: Exclusive Report

Sonam Kapoor, 22, will star opposite Shah Rukh Khan, 42, in Aditya Chopra's romantic action drama Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

Shah Rukh was paired with then 22-year-old debutante Deepika Padukone in his last film Om Shanti Om.

Unlike in Om Shanti Om, the script for Aditya Chopra's film mandates the massive age difference since it focuses on the love between a 40-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl.

When Yash Raj Films announced their new project they also indicated that the female protagonist in the film would be a 16-year-old newcomer.

Following the announcement the banner launched a massive talent hunt for the right combination of Punjabi looks and histrionic abilities, interviewing hundreds of girls in the process.

However, their efforts drew a blank, reports Mumbai Mirror, prompting Aditya Chopra to settle for a young and talented Punjabi girl that the whole country already knew and raved about - Sonam Kapoor.

Sonam's father Anil Kapoor, himself a talented actor, was receptive to the idea, and several meetings later Sonam was on board.

Production of the film, that will be shot extensively in Greece, Australia and Dubai, will start in June - July for release by the end of 2008.

Friend indeed!

It's a known fact that Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra are not only professionally close but are also the best of friends.

Karan recently gave a proof of how good a friend he is to SRK and Aditya. Karan didn't think twice before giving away the dates that Shah Rukh had promised him for his upcoming film, Khan to Aditya Chopra who will soon start shooting for his romantic film, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

Adtya Chopra had last directed Mohabbatein in 2000.

Karan Johar was ready to start shooting for Khan and had SRK's dates from May onwards.

Karan can't stop recalling his days when he assisted Aditya on the sets of his directorial debut, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. Karan had also acted in the Shah Rukh-Kajol blockbuster.

Commenting on readily giving away SRK's dates to Aditya, Karan Johar says, "Adi, Shah Rukh and I are thick friends. I am extremely fond of Adi and very excited about the fact that that he is directing a film after so long. For us, star dates are a minor issue. I am more thrilled about Adi's film than mine. I did it more than happily."

Apparently, Kajol stars opposite SRK in Khan while Aditya has already finalised a 16-year-old female lead for Rab Ne Bana…

SRK-Aditya's RAB NE... from mid-May

One of the most exciting projects to have been announced this year is the third time teaming up of the scion of the Yash Raj empire, ace director Aditya Chopra and Bollywood's global superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

The last two ventures that these two power giants of Bollywood came together for were, DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE and MOHABBATEIN, both of which struck gold at the ticket window. An amazing stat about the team's first venture, DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE is that the film is still running at Bombay's Maratha Mandir in its 645th combined week and has netted an astonishing 11.80 crores from the city (excluding Thane). DDLJ still leads King Khan's latest blockbuster, OM SHANTI OM by about 30 lakhs! Amazing, isn't it?

Coming to the project which forced Shah Rukh Khan to cut short his much deserved vacation (post the triumph of CHAKDE! INDIA and OM SHANTI OM), RAB NE BANA DI JODI, the film is all set to go before the camera in mid-May. And contrary to speculations, no lead heroine (not even Rani Mukherjee) has been finalized and the search for a new face opposite King Khan continues.

'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'

The wait is over. Eight years after he last directed a film, Aditya Chopra is back helming a Yash Raj Films production. Even as his directorial debut DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE continues its record breaking run in its 13th year, Aditya is ready to direct his third film.

After directing his second film, MOHABBATEIN, back in 2000, Aditya had taken a conscious break from direction to set up and develop India's first studio model making Yash Raj Films a name to reckon with. In the years that followed, YRF, under the keen eye of Aditya, produced such blockbusters as DHOOM, DHOOM 2, HUM TUM, BUNTY AUR BABLI, SALAAM NAMASTE, FANAA and CHAK DE INDIA. While Aditya was the creative producer in all these films, he also kept up with his creative juices by writing his father Yash Chopra's directorial venture VEER-ZAARA in 2004, as well as the stories of other films.

Aditya's third directorial venture will be titled RAB NE BANA DI JODI and will star the formidable Shah Rukh Khan... indeed the jodi of Adi and SRK will once again be a treat for film audiences the world over.

Aditya will introduce a new girl opposite King Khan in RAB NE BANA DI JODI. The hunt for a new girl is currently in progress.

The film, to be produced by Yash Chopra, will be written and directed by Aditya Chopra. Shooting for the film will commence in May and RAB NE BANA DI JODI will release by the end of 2008.
