Ash posted a comment on Ram Gopal Varma’s blog

It maybe a while yet before Aishwarya Bachchan turns a blogger. But she has posted a comment on Ram Gopal Varma’s blog... in reply to a comment by another blogger.

‘Shankar looks like an emotional fool when he opens his heart to a girl from America whom he met yesterday,’ was the comment, to which RGV’s tongue-in-cheek answer was ‘May be he has a weakness for worldly beauties.’ ( Watch )

But Ash probably took the above ‘weakness...’ comment about her hubby Abhishek, to heart. For, in response, she’s posted a rather long reply. It reads...

‘When you have two people ‘confide’ in each other, it’s such a personal experience, it underlines a deep connection between the two on various levels and makes this obvious to the observer. Here the audience. Given the realistic space in which the characters express themselves which is very much clear in the language of the film (Realistic in acting, dialogue, camera etc.) we chose CONFIDING IN as hugely intimate an experience to convey this deep connection, rather than ‘fans blowing hair and clothes, background aalaaps or song, round trolley movements, or rain out of nowhere and waltzing etc’ to convey this. It’s all in the Eyes of the Characters and in the intense intimacy of confiding!!!

That’s SARKAR RAJ! ’We’re still wondering if she was talking about Abhishek, her hubby, or his character in the film, Shankar!

SARKAR RAJ is a success

SARKAR RAJ has turned out to be a success at the box office. Even though some media reports have been questioning the film's pull, especially after a huge number of prints that the film was released at, the fact remains that over 23 crores coming in the first week means that at the least SARKAR RAJ would prove to be an average success at the box office.

The kind of collections that have poured in for the film aren't mind blowing but they are nowhere near being poor. In fact for a change, most of the reports too have been guarded as no one from the trade has stood up and called the film as a failure. The talks have mainly been centered around 'Why didn't the film take an earth shattering start in spite of featuring the towering trio from the Bachchan family'.

While in case of RAM GOPAL VARMA KI AAG, it was crystal clear after the first show itself that the film was a failure, and hence everyone associated with it - especially Ramu - was pulled down, SARKAR RAJ has troubled a few in a different way. Because the film didn't under perform in a way as some would have expected, the focus shifted on - 'Collections are good but not very good'!

However, most seem to be ignoring an all important point that Ram Gopal Varma has finally managed to end his poor box office run with SARKAR RAJ which now happens to be the biggest first week money spinner of his career. In fact the film has even created city records at a few centers that seem to have gone unnoticed by majority of trade pundits.

Says a prominent distributor on condition of anonymity, "There is a definite tirade out there that wants the world to believe that distributors are loosing sleep over SARKAR RAJ. No, we are not. The film has earned us the moolah and the kind of subject it comes with, you can't expect a slam-bang job where a film earns over the first weekend and disappears. The film has entered the second week in a strong position as well and we don't foresee anything much fall in days to come."

Well, with MERE BAAP PEHLE AAP not quite taking a thunderous opening that could steal away a lot from SARKAR RAJ, looks like Ramu, Bachchan and Co. may eventually have the final smile, if not a roaring laugh!

"Drona is not a super hero film." - Abhishek Bachchan

It was one of those rare sunny afternoons in London. The wind whipped my hair with the ferocity. Speaking of jet lags, my head ached with the dull throb of the morning. All this and it was a day when Abhishek Bachchan had to call me up on Ram Gopal Varma's request for a special interview post Sarkar Raj. I wait impatiently for a call from Mumbai. It was 1500 hrs to be precise and my mobile rings. "Hi, can I speak to Mr. Patel please?" I answer, "Yes, speaking." The young husky voice replied, "Hi, How are you? This is Abhishek Bachchan; Ramu just gave me your number and asked me to speak with you. But can I call you in half an hour as I'm just going in for a shot?" Without further ado and running out of words, I answered, "Alright that's fine." The devil on my right shoulder began whispering - If Abhishek doesn't call you in half an hour, he will not call today, just go home and do not wait for his call - and he went on and on like that. The angel on my other shoulder didn't say much, but what he did say, spoke volumes. Abhishek...Abhishek...Abhishek. I smelled the coffee for one last time, packed my bag and stared at my watch in amusement. It was 1730 hrs, time to leave the office. So as I pushed open the door, the devil once again reminded me - Didn't I say, he won't call. Within couple of minutes, I boarded the train back home and then the unthinkable happens. My phone beeps, the text message reads - Can I call up now? - It was Abhishek Bachchan. And just as the screechy doors of the metropolitan line train were about to shut, I rushed out in time and replied back to A.B.Junior saying - Yes. In less than thirty seconds the display screen on my phone reads - Abhishek Bachchan calling. The moment I have been waiting for since a month arrives. I looked, paused, looked again, and answered my phone. Then the fun began and some serious conversation took place, all on the noisy railway platform in Uxbridge.

The film is really doing well in the U.K. Is it right in saying that the Bachchan's have unanimously taken the power in the overseas with Sarkar Raj?
Well, I don't know if that could be a statement but yes, the film is doing well and we're very excited about that. I think from the genre of film that it is, it's almost path breaking that the film should be recording the kind of collections that it has, which is very encouraging and means that the audiences in the U.K. are willing to watch this kind of cinema as well.

It all started from Refugee, then after a long wait came Yuva, Guru, Sarkar and now Sarkar Raj. All the films I have mentioned have got you critical acclaim. But does that mean, the more grim, intense and ferocious side of you is shown, the better you have performed and excelled?
That's actually for you'll to decide but I'd also like to believe that movies like Bunty Aur Babli and Bluffmaster also went on to become successful which were lighter in nature than the films you just mentioned. I think at the end of the day it's the film and its characters which appeal to you and not any one particular genre.

Both Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag and Sarkar Raj have proved that how unpredictable Ramu can get as a director. Is that a good sign for an actor like you who has worked with him before and who might work with him again?
Of course, yes. You know my greatest attraction to him as a director is that he is unpredictable and that he is forever trying to do something different and he throws a lot of challenges at his actors and as an actor you really enjoy being challenged. He is always accused of attempting the same kind of cinema, which I disagree with. I think it's very exciting because at the end of the day the fate of the film at the box office is not in our hands. The only thing we can do is make films, which we believe in.

What would you like to say or convey to some of the critics who've blatantly abused Sarkar Raj the film on a much personal level than a professional one? Isn't this taking it too far?
I believe that everybody has the right to say whatever they want - right or wrong - I've always held critics in very high esteem because as far as an actor is concerned, they give you a ready reference as to what the audience might be feeling. If they don't agree with you or they don't agree with the film, I don't see that's any reason to get personal. But I respect what they say and if I think that the points they've made are valid, I'll definitely incorporate that the next time around. It doesn't really affect me to be very honest that at the end of the day, one critic can make or break a film.

Your death in the film has come as a surprise to many. Was death inevitable?
I don't think so. I just think that initially, when we worked on the script of Sarkar Raj, Shankar Nagre was going to reign throughout the film. But about a month or two into the scripting, Ramu came up with this brilliant idea that Shankar Nagre's character would achieve a different level of respectability in the audiences' eyes, if he dies for the cause he believed in. Not to say that we made him into a martyr but we all felt that it would give him a certain amount of lift in terms of his character if we took this route. And at the end of the day, all that is left is Subhash Nagre and Chikoo.

As I've written in my review that Ramu has left so much space by the end of the film that he might be able to start work on the 'Sarkar Trilogy'. On a personal level, what do you think?
Yeah. I think it'll be interesting. Ramu is a very exciting director and he will do justice to the third part too. As you said that Ramu has left it open-ended and any time he wants to reprise the film, the most exciting part would be to see dad play Subhash Nagre again with the same sheer intensity as he did in both the earlier outings. I really think he was outstanding in Sarkar and in Sarkar Raj he was just awesome. He has managed to outdo the performance he has done in Sarkar and I genuinely feel that this was one of his best performances ever. I'd be more than happy for a fan of this series and of the franchise to see it carry on with 'Sarkar Trilogy'.

The Bachchans are getting busier day by day. The IIFA's, then Sarkar Raj, then the Sarkar Raj road rally followed up by your Unforgettable Tour. Busy people are happy people, as they say. What say?
(Laughs) Well, the Sarkar Raj rally is happening within India. We've already been to Gurgaon and Delhi. We will be going in a couple of days to other cities within India to promote the film and mostly interact with the audiences and the fans. We had a wonderful experience in Gurgaon with the local media and our fans. It was an overwhelming experience to see that kind of love and outpouring that came from the people. It's a unique idea and we're looking forward to it. And then, mid July, we embark on the 'Unforgettable World Tour' which actually ends up at the end of August in London. That'll be a lot of fun. And we are happy. That answers your second part of the question.

Today completes one week of the films release in the U.K and Sarkar Raj has already grossed more than quarter of a million pounds here. It also marks Ramu's highest ever collections in the U.K too. Any comments?
I am happy for Ramu and the entire team of Sarkar Raj. But it's not only U.K., the collections in certain parts of India are huge too. America's collection is equally good like in the U.K, if not, may be slightly more because it is a larger market. But at the end of the day what counts is that the thriller genre is getting accepted in the U.K, which traditionally, never used to work. U.K audiences tend to favor the more Yash Raj brand of cinema, which is a family entertainer with a lot of song and dance and culture. Very honestly, we the team of Sarkar Raj never expected the film to do much in the overseas market because of these statistics. The figures you've given me comes as a pleasant surprise that it's doing exceeding business in the U.K.

Sarkar and Sarkar Raj once again proved that the Hindi films aren't just about song and dance routine. Do you think more and more films should be made keeping in mind the success of such films?
Most definitely. When Sarkar was first made, it was a songless film. So was Black, for that matter, and they both went on to be very successful films. It just proved that the audience is willing to see films without songs and now Sarkar Raj has proved it again. And that's three in a row for dad too. We can sing to it (laughs).

Sarkar Raj is filled with sepia tones, black and grey shades and haunting background score. The film has continued from where it ended. Don't you think Ramu should've experimented a bit this time around?
I definitely feel that Sarkar Raj picks up and continues its style that Ramu had implied during Sarkar and this was something that needed to be constant in the film which is the way in which you tell the story and the technique used to convey the story. I hope when the trilogy is made, it still doesn't shift its focus.

Working together with the family for the first time would've been a great experience for you. But does it also bring in enough power in your performance when you see your dad and wife opposite you in the same frame?
Yes. Once the camera rolls, you're a professional and that is exactly how you should be. As actors, we can't allow our inter-personal relations to come in the way of our acting. But the minute Ramu said - Cut it - we were family again and it was great fun. Both dad and Aishwarya are actors with whom I've worked in the past and have enjoyed working with, and before Aishwarya and me were together, as a couple, we've done many films. Infact, she is one co-artist I've done maximum films with. So when you are facing Indian Film Industry's finest, you need to have the power to face them.

What did you learn from Sarkar Raj, which you did not from Sarkar?
There is so much to take away from a film that it becomes that much more an important and a memorable experience. I took away a lot from the film. First and foremost is that RGV Ki Aag released during the making of Sarkar Raj and I really saw Ramu go through this entire journey of emotions after his film failed, which we all know, and I really learnt the strengths of character that Ram Gopal Varma as a director has. You need to know that this was the same man who was lambasted for making such a film. But I really felt that the media and many others really went after him unfairly. I applaud Ramu for the way he handled that situation and the strength and the conviction with which he continued to believe in Sarkar Raj and didn't panic and still made the film, which he set out to make. It speaks volumes for Ramu as a director and as a person.

From your natural acting in Sarkar we will now see you possess some super-natural powers in Drona.
This is a tag that the media has put on because they have nothing else to write over here besides calling it a film with super natural powers. But it's not a super hero film, contrary to popular belief; it is a modern day fantasy in which I play a King. There is a lot of magic in the film but that doesn't make it super natural. I wouldn't compare it to Krishh too. I am really excited about Drona because I've never attempted something like this before. Infact, something like Drona has never been made in the history of Indian cinema. Therefore, we all are working very hard on it and looking forward for it.

Any message you'd like to convey to people who haven't yet watched Sarkar Raj?
Obviously the first message will be - Please go watch it (laughs). Sarkar Raj is a brilliant film in all aspects and credit goes to Ram Gopal Varma. Secondly, fantastic performances from Dad and Aishwarya and if you're my fan... do I have to say anything further? (Laughs)

Whom would you pick to play Chikoo in the Sarkar Raj trilogy?
It'll be nice to see Hrithik Roshan play the role of Chikoo and more interesting will be the Ram Gopal Varma combination with Hrithik. That'll be an exciting watch.

Superstar sees Sarkar 2

While Rajnikanth was disappointed with Aag, he loved Ramu’s latest and told the Big B about it

Rajnikanth flew down to Mumbai with a special copy of Sivaji to show to Amitabh Bachchan. Though the Big B couldn’t reciprocate the gesture with Sarkar Raj, Rajnikanth made it a point to see the film.

A chat with Bachchan on what transpired between him and Rajnikanth:

Rajnikanth has seen Sarkar Raj. How did he find the film?
He came down to Mumbai with the print of Sivaji. I wanted to reciprocate that gesture and fly down to Chennai with Sarkar Raj. I had been trying to coordinate it with him. But Nainital and IIFA delayed my visit. When I called him, he said he couldn’t resist the temptation and saw the film on its release. He has loved the film and the performances and was very profuse in his praise. He complimented Ramu on his brilliant work and admitted that he had been disappointed with Aag but with Sarkar Raj, he was happy that Ramu had redeemed himself.”

Did Rajnikanth mention any performances in particular?
He loved all three of us and sent his wishes to Abhishek and Aishwarya too.

Abhishek has been appreciated by many but which performance did you like the most in SR?
The person whose performance I liked the best was Ram Gopal Varma’s. He created the moments and the atmosphere for us to excel.

Rajnikanth is a close friend of yours. Weren’t you disappointed when he said he hadn’t liked Aag?
No I didn’t feel bad. Indeed the fact that he told me shows the honesty and closeness of his friendship.

Were you disappointed when Aag didn’t do well?
It’s pointless to talk on that… Every film that fails is disappointing for all concerned. But one must not dwell on that too much. Learn from the mistakes and start working harder on the next.

Do you feel Sarkar Raj is Ramu’s comeback vehicle?
On this, I shall quote RGV’s brilliant retort, ‘It’s a comeback for the audience’!

Karan Johar moved Amitabh to tears

NEW DELHI: Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan was moved to tears when noted director and family friend Karan Johar praised his performance in "Sarkar Raj" during the premiere held at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards in Bangkok.

"When he (Karan) came out of the theatre after the premiere he said something that moved me to tears. He bent down and touched my feet and then said, 'I just want to remain here at your feet after seeing your performance.'

"I quickly pulled him up, as I always do and embraced him for long," Amitabh wrote in his latest blog entry.

The actor was quite impressed when Karan expressed his appreciation for a technical aspect in a certain scene that featured Amitabh in "Sarkar Raj".

"While he held me, he whispered in my ear the appreciation of one technical point in the film which I thought no one would ever notice, my scene in front of the photograph of Abhishek," he stated.

"Karan has always shown great respect to both Jaya and me, by touching our feet in greeting. This has been very embarrassing for us. But not for him.

"Irrespective of where we are, he has always maintained that most traditional and endearing gesture, an indicator of his wonderful and cultured upbringing," Amitabh wrote in appreciation of Karan.

IIFA 2008: Day 1

Arrival of the stars
Bangkok witnessed Bollywood biggies landing into the city to be a part of the most prestigious IIFA Awards 2008. Karan Johar, Riteish Deshmukh, David Dhawan, Katrina Kaif, Viveik Oberoi were among the first ones to put their foot in the city. The Bachchan family along with Kareena Kapoor joined arrived later.

Sarkar Raj Premiere gets overwhelming response
RGV's Sarkar Raj Premiere kickstarted IIFA this year in Bangkok. The film got an overwhelming response from the audiences. The premiere had a 'Green Carpet' welcome to show concern towards the issue of Global Warming. A huge crowd packed the venue and the security had a tough time managing them when the Bachchan's arrived for the Premiere at the Paragon Cineplex. Kareena Kapoor, Viveik Oberoi, Urmila Matondkar and Dia Mirza though present at Bangkok for IIFA, skipped the Premiere.

Music launch of Mission Istaanbul
IIFA awards 2008 became the platform for the music launch of Apoorva Lakhia's Mission Istaanbul. While the queen of soaps, Ekta Kapoor, who is the producer of the film, was missing from the event, her absence was filled in by her father, Jeetendra, who launched the music of Mission Istaanbul. The director along with the film's star cast Viveik Oberoi, Zayed Khan, Shabbir Ahluwalia and Niketan Madhok interacted with the media. Viveik Oberoi also danced to the tunes of his famous numbers like 'Aye Ganpat' from Shootout At Lokhandwala.

B.O. Update: 'Sarkar Raj' starts slow, but picks up

The much awaited SARKAR RAJ didn't open to a thunderous response, but the reports are encouraging and the business picked up during evening shows. The opening ranged from 50% to 60% at places, although the opening was lower at single screens [30% to 40%]. However, Mumbai city single screens were better. By evening, the multiplexes were running to packed houses. The opening was partly affected due to heavy rains in some parts of the country.

AAMIR, expectedly, had a slow start, but the word of mouth is tremendous and it should also show an upward trend… HUMSEY HAI JAHAAN has started on a dull note.

"In Sarkar Raj, we couldn't take the liberties like in Dhoom 2" - Abhishek Bachchan

How different are you and your father in Sarkar Raj as compared with Sarkar?
In Sarkar Raj, Pa would be seen with an added slouch. Pa had to be shown aged since the first part of the film. Time has passed and we see it in his performance, and mine. My character has more responsibility on his shoulders. Earlier my character was hungry and lean eager to prove himself. Now I'm a more a confident and successful man.

I believe you've put on weight for the role?
I have. We wanted to show Shankar Nagre as not heavy, but healthier than he was in the first part…as a successful well-settled man. Even my clothes in Sarkar Raj have changed. In Sarkar, I was more casually dressed. In Sarkar Raj, I'm more formally attired in a suit all through.

You know more about sequels than your colleagues?
Sarkar Raj isn't my first sequel. I've also done Dhoom 2. But there's a difference. For Dhoom 2, Aditya Chopra's brief was to take the brand further. He wanted to make the sequel bigger and better. Otherwise, he reasoned, why would they come to see it? Sarkar Raj on the other hand, moved the other way. It's not a candyfloss entertainer. We had to be true to the original characters. The characters moved in a specific direction from the first part to the second. So there has to be a lot of intensity in the presentation. In Sarkar Raj, we couldn't afford the liberties that we could in Dhoom 2.

Experimenting with body language and weight are now a part of your acting grammar. I guess today, an actor has to work hard to be noticed. So does the director. In Sarkar Raj, it's not just my character's weight that has changed. The house the characters live in has become more plush.

This time you take centrestage in the drama?
I disagree. Sarkar is Subhash Nagre which is dad's character. But now Shankar is running the family business. But his father is still the head of the family. So we're in it together."

But you and Aishwarya are not a couple in Sarkar Raj?
Does that matter to the audience? Once the lights go down in the theatre the audience becomes one with the characters. If they don't it's my failing as an actor. They will be swept away with the characters. Whether we're married or a couple in the film is of no consequence. I think such cheap publicity gimmicks don't work. And yes we haven't tried to hide the fact that we aren't a couple in the film. No point in lying to the audience. In fact, there's no relationship between Aishwarya and me in Sarkar Raj. And that should be no problem. Just because we're husband and wife doesn't mean we should play the same roles in all our films.

But what about the strong media -created image of you as a couple?
No, I'm convinced the audience isn't going to take that factor into consideration. My father and I do play father and son in Sarkar Raj. But we weren't related at all in Bunty Aur Babli. In fact, he was hunting me down throughout the film. And yet it was a resounding success.

How much have you evolved as an actor since Sarkar?
I'd like to think my character has evolved since the first part and that I've evolved accordingly. But like I said, Jai Dixit could change his looks and clothes from Dhoom to Dhoom 2. I don't think it'd look believable to see me in a t-shirt, jeans and clean-shaven in Sarkar Raj. As for myself, without sounding arrogant I'd like to say I think I've evolved as an actor. I'm still learning and I'll be learning till the day I'm an actor. Look at my father at 65. He continues to evolve. In comparison to him there's a long way to go. I'd like to believe I'm evolving.

Abhiash unplugged!

Ram Gopal Varma, who made some awful mistakes in 2007, looks set to return with a bang this week with Sarkar Raj.

“It is not a political film,” I heard the filmmaker admonish a RJ yesterday morning, “but a film about betrayal, about relationships.” In his wisdom, Varma has cast the lovely Aishwarya and dashing Abhishek Bachchan in the lead roles, but has not given a love angle to their relationship. For that, Varma has provided Tanuja’s bubbly daughter Tanishaa. The Sarkar, of course, is Amitabh Bachchan. I met the Bachchan khandaan at Mehboob Studios in Bandra earlier this week where promos for the film were being done. The Big B, strangely dressed like the Undertaker in black and on the sets of Alladin, asked curiously, “Going to see the kids?”

The ‘kids’ were next door, waiting for me in Ash’s vanity van, she dressed in long white kurta and jeans, he still in character for the film. Giving me a Shankar Nagre look, Abhishek said, “There is no romantic involvement between us in the film, but there is mutual respect, and admiration.” Ash added, “There is a connection.” I asked, would they now, as husband and wife, be able to enact romantic scenes before the camera with the same ease and passion as they did in earlier films like Guru? Or had one year of married life taken the edge off that chemistry? Ash answered, “By the grace of God, yes, that’s still there. We love our craft, that’s what we do best, but we love each other more intimately.” He joined in grudgingly with, “When the camera comes on, we are professionals, we just do our job.”

Who did his job better in the prequel to this film, I asked Ash, her husband or father-in-law? “That’s a trick question,” she shot back, “but, while you cannot take away from the fantastic job Pa had done, Abhishek’s commitment to his work did not slip my eye. Pa played his role with restraint, he gave a powerful performance without screaming for attention, but that’s expected of him. While Abhishek, who shared screen space with this stalwart who is also his father, delivered what was attributed to him as an actor. Which was also a silent but powerful performance without four pages of dialogue to back it.”

But if you required one of the Bachchans to act for your life and the other to entertain you, who would you choose for either roles, I pressed. Ash hummed and hawed, then replied, “That’s tough, because both have the incredible ability to switch between immense intensity and straight-faced comedy. I don’t know about either acting to save my life, but, believe me, they both entertain me at home from time to time.”

What was it like to watch each other at work when they were not doing a scene together? “Before we got involved,” said Abhishek, “it used to be appreciation. But after we got married, and I further got to know Ash, it’s confusing. Because I know how she thinks, I know what she puts into her scene mentally and physically, how she pays attention to the minutest detail. Ash is like Dad, even when they blink, it’s consciously thought out. She’s my wife, and I love her, but as an actor I don’t have that ability, I’m more nonchalant... and I can’t understand how she does it.” Ash rose to her confused husband’s defence, “He’s spontaneous, his scenes are given at the last moment, but he needs to be comfortable. I was shocked to see the transformation in him on the sets of Guru. So quick, I was genuinely super-impressed and wondered when did he prepare for the scene.”

But now they have grown comfortable together, they know each other’s minds, they have in them the common ability to become the characters they are supposed to be as actors. “The audience can see if there is a disconnect between the character and actor,” Ash said. This comfort level has come after quite a few not-so-famous attempts at acting together. Abhiash, as the couple is known, have done Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Kuch Naa Kaho, Umrao Jaan, Dhoom 2 and Guru together.

What’s the best thing about working together, I asked. “Our relationship is real, so our reaction to situations is not conventional, it’s not mush but deep and caring. And as a co-star, he’s magic, I look to create magical moments with him,” she said. “I get pampered on the sets,” Abhishek laughed, “but, that apart, she’s very giving and selfless. Actors are selfish and save the best for their individual performances. But Ash always gives 100 per cent, she has respect for her co-stars and is dedicated to her work. As my co-star and wife, she allows me a lot of bad behaviour. Actors get het up, a lot gets to us on the sets, and we need to let loose. Ash understands that. And I don’t have to pay for it by sleeping on the couch at night.”

Aishwarya's presence gets Abhishek excited!

The much awaited 25-27 crore Ram Gopal Varma directed SARKAR RAJ, the follow up to his highly successful SARKAR, hits the screens this Friday. Starring for the first time the three Bachchans, in full fledged roles, the film begins where SARKAR ended.

As per Aby's Baby, Abhishek Bachchan, the film has a new story and fresher problems for the Nagre family. He adds that the presence of his wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, in the garb of a business woman, really excites him! He discloses that in the movie Aishwarya puts forth a proposal for Subhash and Shankar Nagre (played by Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan), and later works along with the Nagre family.

Well, we are as excited as Abhishek, if not more, to check out SARKAR RAJ!

Is Ash pregnant

It’s not easy to be a celebrity. And so one can imagine how tough it is to be in a family which has only stars. Yes we are talking about the Bachchan family, which is one of the most respectable families of Bollywood.

And the one question that is on everyone’s mind is when will Aishwarya Rai Bachchan be pregnant? Never has a celebrity been exposed to such intense media scrutiny as much as Ash. The media went into a frenzy when she tied the knot to Abhishek and it looks like that this will now be extended to her pregnancy.

Last night the Bachchan trio came for the promotion of Ram Gopal Varma’s forthcoming film Sarkar Raj . This film brings the three Bachchans together once again after Bunty Aur Babli . More than that it’s the first film after Abhishek-Ash’s marriage, so it is obvious why the film is generating so much attention and hype.

But more than the plot of Sarkar Raj , everybody was interested to know when would Ash and Abhishek be in the family way. When Amitabh Bachchan was asked when will he become a grandfather, a rather restrained reply came as, “I am already a grandfather. I have two grandchildren.”

Reacting to his answer another journalist clarified the question and asked, when he will be grandfather of Ash and Abhishek’s child. Now Abhi and Ash were totally amazed and wanted to see the person who asked this question.

While not reacting much on it Big B said, “ Achcha!! Ab mein dada kab banunga yeh baat mujhse poochne ke bajay (pointed at Abhi-Ash) inse pooche to behtar hota! mein aasha karta hu aap film se jude sawaal pooche!”

The scribe was not put off by the rebuff, He then looked asked Ash whether she is pregnant or not? As she was about to say no...Big B interrupted and said its better the media sticks to questions related to Sarkar Raaj.

Celebrities in India pay a heavy price for their stardom by losing their privacy. And nobody knows it better that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Theatrical trailer of 'Contract' with 'Sarkar Raj'

There is not much that has been shown in the first look of Contract so far, other than the pigeons flying the skyline of Mumbai. Still, even those few seconds with a haunting background score have immediately worked in the film gaining attention by the followers of Ram Gopal Varma's cinema.

So, are we going to see something more than 'just pigeons' over the next few weeks en route to the film's release?

Ramu says after a hearty laugh, "Don't worry, the film is not about pigeons. We wanted to create some excitement about the film coming after Satya and Company, and hence, we refrained from showing anything more than that in the first look. However, you would know more about Contract as the film's full length theatrical trailer would be out along with the release of Sarkar Raj."

With the film being less than week away, it should be double the excitement for cine goers, who would now also catch a glimpse of Contract that mainly stars relative newcomers. Stated to be third in the trilogy of his underworld films, Contract also explores the angle around what happens when underworld meets terrorism.

Promising to be another gritty affair, Contract marks the return of Prasad Purandare, who had enacted the role of 'Don Zameer' in Shimit 'Chak De India' Amin's Ab Tak Chhappan. In the film, he was quite a revelation as a don who shared a unique love-hate relationship with the 'encounter cop' played by Nana Patekar.

Surprisingly, he wasn't seen in any other film in the years gone by. Now after a gap of 4 years, Prasad is returning to the big screen Contract which also stars Sakshi Gulati, Vineet Sharma, Sadia Siddiqui, Saurabh Mahajan and Amruta Khanvilkar (from Mumbai Salsa).

Produced by PVR Cinema and Ace Movie Company, Contract is looking at a 18th July release. The film has music by Amar Mohile, Bapi-Tutul and Sana Kotwal, with action by Allan Amin.

Sarkar Raj to release its background score

It is the first feature film in India to release its background score.

Mumbai: Sarkar Raj becomes the first feature film in India to release its background score.

Power of Sound, the background score album has 32 tracks featuring moods and situations from the film. Amar Mohile has composed the background score.

Film director Ram Gopal Varma said on Thursday night that internationally, there are no song and dance routines like in India, and thus background score for special event films like James Bond and Harry Potter series are released.

He said apart from the background score album, the film has a regular music CD containing 12 tracks.

The film’s lead cast Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan released the album. Amitabh spoke on the importance of background score and how often it is ignored.

When the megastar heard a strange sound coming from the background music being played on stage, he said, “The score reflects my mood for the evening. I have come here after penning a page of my blog only to see the broadband connection going away with my thoughts.”

When Aishwarya was asked how was it to work with Abhishek in the film when they are not paired opposite each other, Abhishek asked, “Do you mean we lack chemistry?” To which Varma said, “This is what happens after marriage.”

The filmmaker refused to entertain questions whether Tanisha, the actress paired opposite Abhishek dies in the film to make Ash and Abhishek come together.

As part of the promotion of Sarkar Raj, a yatra is being planned across five cities from June 13. Varma said the yatra is an exact replication of a scene from the film, where a procession travels from one destination to another.

The three Bachchans will participate in the road show. The film releases on June 6 and will be premiered at the IIFA weekend in Bangkok.

Abhishek’s death in the climax scares distributors

Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar Raj releases next month. The film, a sequel to his 2005 release Sarkar, will also be Abhishek and Aishwarya’s first release after their marriage.

A source who attended one of the private screenings reveals that the climax of the film has given distributors cold feet. “In the climax of the film, Abhishek Bachchan is shot dead.

There is a huge build-up to the scene. Abhishek’s character Shankar Nagre who joins his father in politics wants to make changes and create a revolution.

His death is quite unexpected and is bound to give a big jolt to the viewers. Everyone expects one of the supporting characters, who protects Bachchan Jr, to die. But in the end, Abhishek is gunned down.”

The industry is abuzz with rumours that distributors are worried that Abhishek’s death won’t go down too well with the audience. “Abhishek’s death was always a part of the initial script, but the way it’s shot is quite gory. Also, once he dies, the film takes a dark turn and becomes really depressing.”

Says a industrywalla, “If Abhishek dies, Sarkar becomes an Amitabh movie. And the last memory of Amitabh and Ramu together is Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, and that’s gives distributors sleepless nights.”

It is believed that Amitabh wanted Sarkar Raj to be the first big release of 2008, but had to change that due to Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akbar, which released early this year.

When contacted, Ramu denied that Abhishek dies at the end, while Bachchan replied, “See the film.”

Ash's character could have been played by a man in Sarkar Raj" - RGV

Much has been said about Sarkar Raj being a package deal, considering the fact that it stars the entire Bachchan family comprising of Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. However, as always, Ram Gopal Varma, the man behind Sarkar Raj, chooses to laugh away the insinuation.

"Believe me Sarkar Raj would have been all the same even if the character played by Aishwarya Rai would instead have been a man. Not a single word of the basic plot of the film would have changed if I had taken a male protagonist instead", declares Ramu who is caught at his cheerful best.

In the film's prequel, Sarkar, Abhishek Bachchan turned out to be a surprise element. Though all eyes were (rightly) focused on Amitabh Bachchan, who did come up with one of his best performances in last few years, Abhishek did manage to stand on his own and came up with a delightful performance. Considering the fact that it is a given the two Bachchans would come up with yet another powerhouse performance again, what's the surprise element to look for in Sarkar Raj?

"Aishwarya Rai", says Ramu promptly, "As Anita Rajan, she enters the lives of Subhash (Big B) and Shankar Nagare (Abhishesk) and her character grows over a period of time. She is an element which connects audience with the Nagare family."

He continues to add though that Ash plays a very strong character in the film even though there is absolutely no scope of any romance built up in Sarkar Raj.

"Don't even look for a romantic drama in Sarkar Raj since there isn't scope of any. Just because a film stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai doesn't mean that they start romancing with each other. And let's not forget that Abhishek's character is already married to Tanisha (Mukherjee) in the film", jokes Ramu.

Also starring Ravi Kale, Govind Namdeo, Victor Banerjee, Supriya Pathak, Sayaji Shinde, Dilip Prabhawalkar and Upyendra Limaye in principal roles, Sarkar Raj is confirmed for a 6th June release and is the most anticipated film arriving this summer.

Everyone who has been watching the promos of Sarkar Raj... have been admiring the look that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is supporting in the film.

Since she plays the head honcho of a power plant that plans to set up in India, she sports a very cool hair bun, solitaires, intimate jewellery with some serious business suits.

Says an insider, “Since this was the first film that AbhiAsh were going to appear on celluloid after marriage, it was obvious she wanted to look her best.

And she wanted to work on all aspects of her look – whether it was make up, hair or dress. More importantly she had seen Sarkar and knew that the Ramu liked understated power.

So she wanted her look should be very subtle but very powerful. She wanted the designer to model her look on international head honchos and CEOs." We must admit that all her efforts have worked... and she really looking very nice, truly corporate in real sense!
