Ash has German measles

Aishwarya Rai is down with German measles. The actress, who has been under the weather since the past couple of days, has been medically advised not to come in contact with anyone as it is contagious.

A source reveals that Ash hadn't been keeping well ever since she returned from the IIFA awards in Bangkok earlier this month. After complaining of fever and bodyache for several days, Ash landed up with German measles.

Pa-in-law Amitabh Bachchan confirms the development and says, "Yes, it's been a while. But she's almost out of it."

Adds the source, "Ash has been advised complete bedrest. Since the virus takes its own time to subside, there isn't much she can do. She's cancelled all her appointments."

Another source close to the family adds, "Ash's condition has improved now and she's on her way to recovery. This is the first time she has been affected by measles."

    What is German measles?
Rubella, commonly known as German measles, is an infection that affects the skin and lymph nodes.

It is caused by the rubella virus (not the same one that causes measles), which is transmitted by droplets from the nose or throat that others breathe in.

It can also pass through a pregnant woman's bloodstream to infect her unborn child.
